  • We ALL need a vacation!
    Aug 1 2025
Bill ‘o Reilly’s Message of the day on Friday was absolutely on point. Having not taken a real vacation to relax since 2017, I decided two days off this week was critical for my physical and mental health. And despite getting food poisoning at the Burger King in West Wendover because I really wanted that Brisket, it was delightful to rest. I plan on resting most of the weekend and to give the County Commission a few days off until I talk about another important issue. The Golf Course, and how important THAT property is to our tourism dollars. So relax for the weekend and enjoy a break. I know I will. And if you have a rant you want to get off your chest, email at nevadatalknet at gmail dot com. Your voice is welcome.

  • 66% of all retail sales come from people who don't even LIVE here! That's the impact of Tourism!
    Jul 22 2025
What’s the economic impact of tourism on White Pine County? It’s hefty. It’s significant. In 2023, two-thirds of all taxable sales in the county came from visitors. Of 99 million dollars in retail sales in 2023, visitors are responsible for over 64 million dollars. Tourism is a vital part of our community, and the impact of tourist income is roughly 6600 dollars per household. That number can only go up. Particularly if the county gets its hands off the proposed Heritage Park Project, which potentially could bring two to three regional baseball or softball tournaments per year. That’s significant sports tourism income for the county. And for those who say the county can’t get enough help to maintain the parks now, of course they can’t. Look at our unemployment rate. Lowest in the state! And remember, people don’t leave bad jobs, they leave bad bosses. Would YOU want to work for this county commission? Opposing opinions are welcome.
