On 26 April 2017, in Caracas (Venezuela), a student at the Metropolitan University was hit by a tear gas canister, which ended his life hours later. His killing, which took place in the context of the 2017 protests against the government of Nicolas Maduro, illustrates the widespread violence perpetrated by the government against protesters and bystanders, and the impunity with which these crimes were committed.
