The podcast is based on the Jacobs Institute’s report titled 'The Future of Medicine', which was released in 2017. The report was funded by Jacobs Institute Board Chairman, Mr. Jeremy M. Jacobs and his family. Each episode features illuminating discussions between Bill Maggio--who serves as the Jacobs Institute CEO--and leading physicians, researchers, health care and medical device industry executives, entrepreneurs, and more. The Jacobs Institute, or JI, is a non-profit medical device innovation center in Buffalo, NY, focused on accelerating the development of technologies to treat heart attack, stroke, and other vascular diseases. The JI was formed in a collaboration between Founder, Dr. Nick Hopkins, and Mr. Jacobs. Join Bill and the Jacobs Institute as we journey into the future of medicine.

    Carlos Peña, PhD, MS, is Chief Regulatory Officer, leading the newly established Office of Regulatory Services at the Jacobs Institute. Prior to the JI, Carlos served as the Director of the Office of Neurological and Physical Medicine Devices, at the Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH), at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). He was also the Assistant Director of Emerging Technologies in the Executive Office of President Barack Obama (2012-2014). He joins us to discuss the FDA's medical device approval process, how the JI's newly established Office of Regulatory Affairs will benefit the Buffalo-Niagara region, and more.
