Jonathan

Jonathan was seven when his family moved to Madrid and settled in a neighborhood overwhelmed by heroin use. What began as his parents’ calling turned into a growing rehab community, and his childhood unfolded inside it. He built real relationships with people in recovery, many of whom later died during the AIDS crisis. As an adult, he can see what he couldn’t then. It was not just unusual. It was formative in ways he is still working to understand.
