  • Is Intelligent Life the Universe’s Rarest Phenomenon? With Dr. Graham Lau
    Jan 13 2026

Astrobiologist Dr. Graham Lau joins John Michael Godier to explore the biggest questions in science: how life begins, why intelligence might be rare, whether ocean worlds trap alien civilizations, and what the Panzoic Effect reveals about humanity’s future. The conversation spans SETI, METI risks, terraforming, the overview effect, consciousness, meditation, the Drake Equation, and the ethics of contacting extraterrestrial intelligenceDr. Graham Lau's websitehttps://cosmobiota.com/

  • Are There Alien Artifacts in Our Solar System? with Dr. James Benford
    Jan 11 2026

Von Neumann probes, self-replicating spacecraft, or Alien lurkers and alien artifacts all represent the idea that somewhere in our solar system there could be evidence of an alien civilization and that they may have been silently watching us from space for millions of years or longer.Jonh Michael Godier spoke to Dr. James Benford about his paper 'Looking for Lurkers: Co-orbiters as SETI Observables', as well as other solutions to the fermi paradox that involves finding alien artifacts in our own solar system.Looking for Lurkers: Co-orbiters as SETI Observables by Dr. James Benford: https://arxiv.org/pdf/1903.09582.pdfWant to support the channel?Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/EventHorizonShowFollow us at other places!Website: https://www.eventhorizonshow.com/Twitter: https://twitter.com/jmgeventhorizonInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/jmgeventhorizon/Music featured on Event Horizonhttps://stellardrone.bandcamp.com/https://migueljohnson.bandcamp.com/https://leerosevere.bandcamp.com/https://aeriumambient.bandcamp.com

  • Why Humans Will Never Colonize Mars with Gizmodo’s George Dvorsky
    Jan 10 2026

George Dvorsky says in his article 'Humans Will Never Colonize Mars' on Gizmodo that,“The suggestion that humans will soon set up bustling, long-lasting colonies on Mars is something many of us take for granted. What this lofty vision fails to appreciate, however, are the monumental—if not intractable—challenges awaiting colonists who want to permanently live on Mars. Unless we radically adapt our brains and bodies to the harsh Martian environment, the Red Planet will forever remain off limits to humans.”John Michael Godier and George Dvorsky discuss his article and exactly will humans ever colonize mars? As well as the misconception from people over whether humans will never go to mars or the idea of can we live on mars? They also go over a spacex mars mission update and if there are other planned missions to mars? As well as if virtual space exploration could be feasible. Also. What is the Fermi Paradox? And how does it relate to exploring the solar system in a virtual environment as well as Artificial Intelligence and super intelligence. • Was Water Vapor Discovered on an Earth Like Exoplanet? With Dr. Angelos Tsiaras
    Jan 9 2026

Joining John Michael Godier on Event Horizon is Dr. Angelos Tsiaras, him and his team have discovered water vapors in the atmosphere of K2-18b, an earth like exoplanet. But just how much like earth is it? And does having water mean this planet, could be a host to alien life? Dr. Angelos Tsiaris is a research associate at the University College London in the department of physics and astronomy."Water vapour in the atmosphere of the habitable-zone eight-Earth-mass planet K2-18 b", Tsiaras et al, 2019https://www.nature.com/articles/s41550-019-0878-9https://angelostsiaras.com/Does Most Life Exist In Ice Shell Moons Like Europa? • A Quantum Beginning for a Two-Sided Universe with Dr. Neil Turok
    Jan 7 2026

How did it all begin? How did this universe in which we live come to be? The story begins in the early 20th century with Georges LeMaitre who originated the concept that an expanding universe could be extrapolated back to a point. Then came the observations of Edwin Hubble that indicated rather clearly that the universe was indeed expanding. Then there were other discoveries, such as the cosmic microwave background radiation which is literally the afterglow of the big bang. But there are mysteries still. There comes a point where we can no longer study the big bang directly, a point where everything becomes opaque. This and other questions have led to a number of different models for just how the big bang played out. My guest Neil Turok specializes in the physics of the early universe, and unraveling just what happened. The cyclic universe theory was considered by Albert Einstein. A new cyclic universe theory was proposed by Dr. Neil Turok and Paul Steinhardt. What is the antiuniverse?
