The first is the commissioning of Isaiah in Isaiah Chapter 6, and the second is Jacob’s vision at Bethel in Genesis 28—of a heavenly staircase with angels ascending and descending upon it. When we come to the New Testament, Jesus promises Nathanael that he will see a vision much like Jacob saw at Bethel. In John 1:51, Jesus says Nathanael will see the heavens opened and angels ascending and descending upon the Son of Man! How is the vision promised to Nathanael a reflection of Jacob’s vision at Bethel? And how is this vision ultimately fulfilled in the climactic vision of angels in the Book of Revelation?
