A federal 10% interest rate cap on credit cards may not be what it appears - potentially resulting in reduced access to everyday credit and emergency liquidity, lower credit limits and tighter lending standards, and higher fees to offset increased risk for lenders.

A state bill would restrict interchange, following on the heels of a bill known as 'Stop the Skim' in shorthand and entitled HB25-1282 'Payment Card Network Practices & Fees.' Jenifer explains why a new bill, yet to be introduced, designed to restrict the fee merchants pay to accept credit cards is not the answer to rising business and consumer costs.
