  • 141. Demolition Man (1993)
    Jan 6 2026

This week, we review Demolition Man (1993), Marco Brambilla’s explosive blend of sci-fi action and satirical social commentary. Sylvester Stallone stars as John Spartan, a no-nonsense cop thawed out of cryo-prison to hunt down Wesley Snipes’ chaotic super-criminal, Simon Phoenix, in a future where violence—and toilet paper—have both been outlawed. With its dystopian Los Angeles turned pacified utopia, the film hilariously critiques political correctness, surveillance culture, and the cost of enforced peace.

Is the future a sanitized paradise or a freedomless nightmare? Listen on to find out!

Movie 15565 on Metacritic’s all time movie list.

This week, we review Gremlins (1984), Joe Dante’s darkly comic Christmas horror classic that blends creature-feature chaos with suburban satire. Zach Galligan stars as Billy, a small-town teen whose mysterious new pet, Gizmo, comes with three simple rules—rules that, once broken, unleash a horde of mischievous monsters on his hometown. With its mix of practical effects, slapstick violence, and eerie holiday cheer, the film explores themes of consumerism, responsibility, and the unintended consequences of curiosity.

  • 138. Anaconda (1997)
    Dec 16 2025

This week, we review Anaconda (1997), Luis Llosa’s action-packed jungle horror-thriller that slithers into creature feature territory with a monstrous appetite. Jennifer Lopez and Ice Cube star as members of a documentary film crew who find themselves hunted by a giant, man-eating snake deep in the Amazon rainforest. With Jon Voight delivering an unforgettably unhinged performance as a snake-obsessed poacher, the film blends campy suspense, jungle survival, and B-movie terror into a cult classic adventure.

Is Anaconda a cold-blooded classic or just a hiss-terical misfire? Listen on to find out!

  • 137. Frankenstein (2025)
    Dec 9 2025

This week, we review Frankenstein (2025), Guillermo del Toro’s gothic science‑fiction re‑imagination of Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus. Oscar Isaac stars as the brilliant but egotistical scientist Victor Frankenstein, and Jacob Elordi plays the Creature—his tragic creation. The story follows Victor’s ambition to conquer death, the creation of a being born of his experiment, and the profound consequences that follow. With lush visual design, emotional depth and philosophical undertones about creation, responsibility and the nature of life, the film raises questions about what it means to play god and who truly pays the price.

Is it a monster‑movie for the ages or a myth revisited with bittersweet elegance? Listen on to find out!

  • 136. Rocky IV (1985)
    Dec 2 2025

This week, we review Rocky IV (1985), Sylvester Stallone’s Cold War-era sports drama and the most gloriously over-the-top entry in the Rocky franchise. Stallone returns as the iconic underdog Rocky Balboa, who steps into the ring against Ivan Drago, a seemingly unstoppable Soviet powerhouse played by Dolph Lundgren.

Fueled by vengeance, patriotism, and a synth-heavy soundtrack, this film pits East vs. West in a boxing match that’s less about sport and more about global stakes. With a training montage for the ages and a robot butler to boot, Rocky IV punches hard on themes of grief, redemption, and international rivalry.

Is it about throwing hands or throwing in the towel on diplomacy? Listen on to find out!

  • 135. Airplane! (1980) and Zero Hour! (1957)
    Nov 25 2025

This week, we’re doubling up with Zero Hour! (1957) and Airplane! (1980), two films forever linked by turbulence, tension and parody perfection. Directed by Hall Bartlett, Zero Hour! is a no-nonsense disaster thriller where Dana Andrews plays a guilt-ridden ex-pilot forced to land a crippled airliner after the crew succumbs to food poisoning. Ruthlessly straight-faced, it laid the blueprint for the genre’s melodrama and moral gravity.

Fast-forward to 1980, and Jim Abrahams along with David and Jerry Zucker hijack the entire premise to create Airplane!, one of the most beloved spoof comedies of all time. With Robert Hays as the PTSD-plagued pilot and Leslie Nielsen delivering deadpan gold, Airplane! reuses Zero Hour!’s plot beat-for-beat...just with more inflatable autopilots and jive-talking passengers.

Is this a case of high-stakes drama giving way to high-flying farce, or proof that comedy is just tragedy plus a punchline? Listen on to find out!

Zero Hour! is not on Metacritic’s all time movie list!Airplane! is movie 2335 on Metacritic’s all time movie list!

  • 134. The Running Man (1987)
    Nov 18 2025

This week, we review The Running Man (1987), Paul Michael Glaser’s dystopian action-thriller based on a story by Stephen King (writing as Richard Bachman). Arnold Schwarzenegger stars as Ben Richards, a wrongly convicted man forced to compete in a brutal, televised death game in a future where media and government control blur disturbingly.

With satirical jabs at reality TV, authoritarianism, and media manipulation, this cult classic dives headfirst into a neon-soaked nightmare of entertainment gone lethal.

Is freedom just another broadcast, or is survival the ultimate ratings winner? Listen on to find out!
