In this final episode of season 18, we sat down with Daniel Wand of Capsize to talk about the band’s long-awaited return and the release of their new Under a Hollow Sky EP, out now via Roux & Ruin Records. After years of sporadic single releases, Daniel reflected on why returning to a physical EP format felt essential, allowing the band to tell a complete story for the first time since 2016’s A Reintroduction: The Essence Of All That Surrounds Me. We discussed the creative and emotional weight behind tracks like “The Fracture” and the EP’s title song, the freedom that came with signing to Roux & Ruin Records, and recently working with producers Matt Good and Cody Stewart. Daniel also opened up about accountability, internal struggle, and maintaining full creative control—both sonically and visually—as Capsize step into a more intentional and fully realized new chapter. So much more to come from these guys.

We sat down with Volumes vocalists Michael Barr and Myke Terry to reflect on the band’s journey from their 2009 Los Angeles beginnings to the release of their fifth album, Mirror Touch, out via Fearless Records. We looked back on the trials, lineup changes, and dedication that shaped Volumes into one of modern metalcore’s most distinctive voices, while also diving into their live energy, touring life, and the bands that continue to inspire them. The conversation explored the writing process behind Mirror Touch, the pressure and responsibility that comes with longevity, and how the album represents a full evolution of the Volumes sound — blending groove, atmosphere, polyrhythmic heaviness, and unmistakable swagger. Michael and Myke also opened up about balancing dual vocal roles, working again with producer Daniel Braunstein, the album’s striking visual identity, and the deeply human themes running through the lyrics. Mirror Touch stands as both a celebration of Volumes’ past and a confident step into their future.

We caught up with guitarist Devin Shidaker of The Acacia Strain back in October to talk about the band’s crushing thirteenth album, You Are Safe From God Here, out now via Rise Records. Joining the band later in its timeline, Devin reflected on carving out his own path within The Acacia Strain, the chemistry he’s built with frontman Vincent Bennett over the years, and the lasting influence of artists like the late Ozzy Osbourne. We also touched on his love for horror films and how that atmosphere bleeds into the band’s sound. The new record sees The Acacia Strain fusing sludge, doom, and death metal while still preserving the raw, unhinged aggression rooted in hardcore punk.

Recorded in October ahead of their North American run with Fit For A King and Make Them Suffer, this conversation with Darius Tehrani of Spite feels even more significant now that the tour has wrapped and New World Killer has fully landed.

The episode dives into the release of New World Killer on Rise Records, unpacking Darius’ personal influences and the lasting impact of late icons like Ozzy Osbourne, while also tracing Spite’s origins back to their formation in 2014. Darius also reflects on the unique experience of performing alongside his brother Alex, whose presence on guitar has been integral to the band’s identity from the start.

While Spite are often grouped alongside modern heavyweights like Lorna Shore, Bodysnatcher, and Traitors, New World Killer makes one thing clear: this fifth record solidifies Spite’s own unmistakable lane. It’s a release that captures the band at their most confident, refined, and unapologetically themselves — a defining moment that resonated powerfully on the road and beyond.
