  • September 1994 (Lidl)
    Sep 30 2025

If you're at Aberystwyth Comedy Festival this weekend don't forget to check out Esyllt Sears' shows:

First Dates Motel - Live! With Esyllt Sears and Robin Morgan

8 Out Of Ten Celts With Esyllt Sears, Mary Flanigan and Eleanor Morton

Just squeezing this into our run of Septembers by the skin of our teeth (you'll find out why), it's September 1994 and Lidl comes to the UK... but do YOU know the differece between Lidl and Aldi? Esyllt Sears doesn't and Gareth Gwynn isn't convinced either, but he's thought of a way to monetise the difference. We also cover smoking on trains - which you think would be part of the discussion on 1994 but absolutely isn't.

How do you tell the difference between Aldi and Lidl? Let us know, especially if you are a TV commissioner on imsonotoverit@gmail.com or contact us on one of the following...

  • September 1989 (Challenge Anneka)
    Sep 23 2025

The perculiar show image will be explained when Esyllt Sears goes through some of the Challenges that Anneka Rice faced in her hit BBC (not ITV!) show Challege Anneka. It wasn't all Scout Huts and community centres, y'know. We also cover the spiritual prequel to Challenge Anneka, Treasure Hunt, and there's a whole thing about sardines which isn't about September 1989 at all, but will make you relieved that in the relentless march towards "Visualized Content", no-one is bothering with capturing smells.

  • September 1998 (Geri Halliwell's Car Boot Sale)
    Sep 16 2025

The Royle Family and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? both started in September 1998 and completely redefined their respective TV genres - but you know about those already, which is why we won't bother talking about them much. Instead, Gareth Gwynn and Esyllt Sears cover a long forgotten Cilla Black vehicle and a Channel 4 documentary about modelling they pulled at the last minute, which are probably just as influental, but for all the wrong reasons.

We also cover Geri's Union Jack dress, the Past Times business model and whether Gareth could pretend to be Esyllt's dad for cash. There's also a mention of the Berlin Wall thanks to Adam - he co-presents the podcast Lightly Used with Adam and Karen, which is all about quality charity shop finds - you can listen here.

  • Summer Leftovers
    Aug 28 2025

It's the first time we've ever done a "Summer Leftovers" special (and what Summer Leftovers are exactly, we'll leave to the show itself) but it's the usual drill - Gareth Gwynn and Esyllt Sears present bits and bobs which didn't fit into the weekly episodes. We cover iPods, Blackberries, Die Hard III and Past Times...

But, isn't it ALL Past Times, really?

  • August 1977 (Elvis)
    Aug 19 2025

Gareth Gwynn is heading to Edinburgh! Having repeatedly told people he wasn't going, it turns out he'll be doing his show "Cyril" in the Hotel Indigo Edinburgh, York Place, EH1 3JD at 4pm on the 20th-24th August 2025. It's about history, but not history you remember (unless you are over 100 and lived in Gower). That's just about all the information we have right now, but anything else, he'll pop on his website, like a BBC TV show from 2001.

As for this week? Well, we start with a peak behind the curtain. What happen when we start researching a month and think "this is a bit bleak?" Often, we ditch it and find another (which means, yes, one day there'll be a real tranche of tricksy ones to smash through - but we'll cross that miserable bridge when we get to it).

But not today! Esyllt Sears saw the death of Elvis Presley on the list and decided to push on. Somehow we also cover 1970s clothing safety standards, what to do when your friend works for a Burger King and we ask the question, how distracted have you been by a strawberry? • Bonus Episode: August 2003 (Again)

This has all been quite a last minute affair, so that's just about all the information we have right now, but anything else, he'll pop on his website (God, that's awfully Xennial isn't it? Having a website? Jeez).

We couldn't put out a message just saying that, so here's a clip from last week's show we'd put aside for the next "Leftovers" episode, all about August 2003. Can’t vouch for any of the pronunciation in this one.

  • August 2003 (Movie Night)
    Aug 12 2025

We give the more newsy-news of August 2003 a wide berth this week, preferring to concentrate on the film releases of the month. Gareth Gwynn was working in a cinema, so should have the inside track on what was going on in movieland. However, what he actually discusses with Esyllt Sears is the millitary's preferences for sweets, prepping for a jazz-themed purge and Nicholas Parsons.
