was born into chaos… but she found purpose through pain.”
In this emotional and inspiring episode of Indelibly Marked, Shelle West opens up about being born a crack baby, with a mother battling addiction and disappearing in and out of treatment. Raised by her 10-year-old brother under the care of her elderly grandmother, Shelle was a child surviving in adult circumstances.
Through fights, arrests, and jail time, Shelle lived a wild life — but her heart never hardened. At just 18, she became the full-time caregiver for her grandmother. And when tragedy struck with the death of her extended little brother, her life changed. Inspired by his compassion, she founded Show Me You Care KC — an organization dedicated to feeding the homeless, giving toys to children, and providing hope to the forgotten.
Shelle also Became a foster mom, proving that where you start is not where you have to end.
This is a story of pain, resilience, and purpose — one you won’t forget.
