  • PART II: INATTENTIONAL BLINDNESS: Is that an Invisible Gorilla, or are you just happy to see me?
    Sep 1 2024

Part 2 of our episode EXPOSING the invisible gorilla theory, and now that we have broken it, no more research will be able to be conducted because of "demand characteristics" or something. Because we are just such a big huge podcast that every single person in the world will become academically compromised after listening to our episode. Thoughts and prayers.

Did you know that there are invisible gorillas all around us? They are the ones that steal our socks and hearts and make us stay in love with our exes longer than the norm. They are also the ones that post the misinformation online the first time and don’t cite their sources. Darn you invisible gorillas

Inattentional blindness is the reason that these gorillas get by scot free, they are the reason you didn’t see the cyclist in your blind spot and why when looking for your keys you literally miss your keys. It is the function of our attention being so invested that we have no more attentional capacity to see anything else, especially things that we are not expecting to see.

This episode we look into the research post invisible gorilla experiment so if you missed it listen to that one first!

If Elon Musk was to come on stage and do a dance at a Taylor Swift concert I genuinely think I would miss it because of the attention to the girl of the moment, and this happens to us during less exciting parts of our lives as well, the less exciting parts being the experiments undertaken to explain this phenomenon, but the results are exciting and thereby the ep is exciting.

Listen to the ep now and you will win 1 intelligence point and 1 charisma for having a cool study to discuss with your friends at the dinner parties.

  • ALLERGIES PART II: Nut Free Zone? I sure hope it does
    Aug 18 2024

Part 2 of my rant/ hyper fixation on my favourite topic of science, and that is Allergies!

Our seemingly failing immune response, could it really be a way to protect us against worms, toxins, fungi? Or is it an emerging response to the world of hyper hygiene and eating less dirt?

Unforch I yapped too long and there is a part 1 that you may have missed that came out last week! To get some much needed context on what an allergy response is and why we have them at all, to whether or not they were developed as an evolutionary advantage (the jury is still out IMO), we also discussed a few (probably too many) hypothesises, and relevant studies to support the ever expanding field of research (because we keep on getting more allergic!).

This episode we delve a bit deeper into why we have more allergies now and what the research says! More hypothesises are spilled, we thoroughly dissect the microbiome and the potential ramification of over prescription of antibiotics on not only antibiotic resistance and microbiome changes, but on allergies as well! We look at ways that allergens can sneak into the dms (blood stream) and cause emotional damage (sensitization) and even the need for therapy (allergy).

Anyway enjoy our natterings about allergies and hopefully one day we can figure out how to de sensitize (I've tried emotionally and the outlook is grim)…
