"Hope That Looks Different" with Jane Portlock

This is the talk from our 10:45 service on 13th July 2025. The reading was 1 Peter 4:1-19. In this powerful talk, Jane explores how Christian hope transforms our response to suffering and trials. Drawing from Peter's letter to persecuted believers, we're challenged to develop a hope that endures suffering, chooses holiness, and glorifies God even in trials. Through personal stories and contemporary examples—from Olympic determination to wartime ministry in Ukraine—we discover that authentic Christian hope isn't about avoiding hardship but shining through it. The talk reminds us that our calling isn't merely to start the Christian race but to finish it well, living counter-culturally with prayer, love, hospitality, and faithful service.
