Mother and son arrested for connection to shooting at Madison apartment complex. MADISON, Tenn — Weeks after a man was shot in the chest in Madison, authorities announced two suspects — a mother and son — have been taken into custody for their connection to the incident. According to court documents, officers were called to the 300 block of Rio Vista Drive just after 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28 to respond to reports about a man who had been shot in the chest. When officers arrived to the apartment complex, they said they rendered aid to the victim until he was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Witnesses allegedly told officers the incident stemmed from an argument between the victim and his daughter’s boyfriend. There was also a friend present with the boyfriend, police said. During the argument, officials said the mother of the friend pulled out a handgun and shot the victim. The group then fled from the scene in a vehicle in an unknown direction. Officials said the victim later identified the suspects. According to an arrest report, 43-year-old Michelle Thornton was identified as the “suspect who possessed a firearm, brandished it at the victim, and fled the scene after the victim sustained a gunshot wound to the chest.” Michelle Thornton is a licensed practical nurse (LPN) in Tennessee. Court records state 18-year-old Deandre Thornton was also identified as a suspect by the victim. Police said detectives found Michelle and her son, Deandre, traveling in a car on Tuesday, June 11, so they stopped the vehicle in the 400 block of Gallatin Pike North and took both individuals into custody. Authorities also recovered a 9mm pistol and a .40 caliber handgun. Michelle and Deandre both face charges for attempted criminal homicide and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. They are being held in Metro Jail on $510,000 bond each.
