Series 1, Episode 9 - "Crush the lesser races. Conquer the galaxy. Unimaginable power. Unlimited rice pudding, et cetera, et cetera."
Welcome back friends of the Doctor. It's been an uncertain time for our favourite Time Lord but with matters settled (for now) we're back with more of our classic reviews to keep the TARDIS fires burning. This month and next we'll be concluding our 2025 series of Dalek-themed episode reviews, and boy do we have a big one (and a relevant one) here right now. Releasing on the very day of Doctor Who's 62nd anniversary we're following the Seventh Doctor and Ace back to the time and place it all began, for the legendary classic serial "Remembrance of the Daleks". Host Mike has fired up the transmat and beamed in a couple of great returning guests to join him and co-host/travelling companion D.K. Firstly it's actor, raconteur and Imperial Dalek lover Cliff Chapman. And last but certainly not least, she has more opinions on the Doctor than Davros, but she loves him really, it's Jillian Speed. Our fearless foursome begin with a brief discussion of favourite Seventh Doctor stories, before the return of the titular "Hit or Miss" section. This time around we're taking in a fitting Dalek ship, an equally relevant special model of the old pepperpots, the last big anniversary specials and a recently dearly departed Doctor. Then it's off to Shoreditch where we're diving very deep into this packed story, taking in themes of racism, the folly of nostalgia, the new master manipulator Doctor, the "surprise" reveals and just why this story ranks among the best to feature the dreaded Dalek menace. We'll cover the outstanding acting, the role of Counter-Measures, which Dalek faction we prefer and even in what way "Remembrance of the Daleks" is like the Barbie movie. We conclude by opening the Subwave Network to gather audience thoughts, sharing our personal highlights and then giving conclusions and scores. So don't go getting close to any suspicious soldiers, do not call Ace small, set down the baseball bat and get ready to enjoy this dense, geeky, informative and fun podcast episode with a nice cup of tea. Maybe some sugar? Would it make a difference?... oh, let's not start all that again.
