Welcome to your weekly sweet bite of art history! Together with host Celia Bugno, listeners will make their way through today's ever-expanding visual culture by discussing major arts-world stories from the last week each Tuesday, and by deep-diving into groundbreaking moments from the art historical past once-monthly. Talking through the weird, the infamous, the hilarious, and even the seemingly pointless of visual culture in order to understand our present, Celia brings you all the "highbrow" knowledge she can get her hands on in short, sweet episodes designed to keep you hooked and just maybe teach you a little something. This is Highbrow Honey! Check each episode description for a complete source list! OR our newly launched Patreon for exclusive content, and our Kofi for membership and donation opportunities. Celia Bugno holds a Master's in Art History, specialized in Contemporary arts, from Arizona State University (2023), and a B.A. in Art History from Miami University (2016). Her primary goal in podcasting is to inspire the same love of learning in her listeners that her professors and mentors have inspired in her through the efforts of her work.Celia M. Bugno 2023 Arte

  • The Frilly, the Flirty, and the Fete Galante
    Feb 4 2025

Bonjour, Honeys! This week we are talking about a movement known for being superficial, visually pleasurable, and full of fun scenes: get ready to Rococo.

We'll focus on some of the flirtiest and frilliest of the movement's artworks to understand how the death of the Sun King inspired a culture of luxury and lushness in 18th century France. Deep diving into some of the most famous pre-Revolution French pieces will lead us to uncover the social motivations and the titillating tales behind them. And will help us explain what exactly the fete galante is, of course!

    Talk to you soon, Honeys!
