Episode 260 of the Hey You Guys Podcast is here, and this week, Liam and Rob look back at sci-fi cult classic, 1980's, Flash Gordon. As surprisingly dark as it is colourful, as camp as it is oddly sincere, and as horny as it is family friendly, Mike Hodges and Dino de Laurentiis' take on the 30s serial source material is nothing if not utterly eclectic. Does it hold up though? Is it chintzy or charming? Unforgettable or just plain annoying? Listen in via your podcast of choice to find out.

Episode 259 of the Hey You Guys Podcast is here, and this week, Liam and Rob look back at one of the most influential movies that most people have never seen.....or heard of? It's hard to escape the similarities between Alex Proyas', Dark City and the Matrix, but the surprising news is that, Dark City showed up a full year before The Matrix's monumental impact on both cinema and popular culture. Did the success of The Matrix ultimately bury Dark City? It's a possibility. But what about now? Does this long overlooked cult classic deserve another chance? How does it hold up nearly 30 years later? Listen in via your podcast platform of choice to find out.

Episode 258 of the Hey You Guys Podcast is here, and this week, we look back at Top Gun in a car, 1990's, Days of Thunder. Is this another Scott / Cruise classic, or it all a tad too formulaic? Are there too many story strands? Is Nascar just too foreign a concept for those of us on this side of the Atlantic? Or, and stick with me here - does none of that matter when the races (and Cruise?) look this good? Listen in via your podcast platform of choice to find out.

Episode 257 of the Hey You Guys Podcast is here, and this week, we look back at the bizarre world of Full Moon Features and their ambitious sci-fi action horror movie, 1991's, Dollman. Yeah, this one is pretty niche, but is it any good? Can Tim Thomerson's best Clint Eastwood impression make up for the lack of budget? Is the movie charmingly hockey or, well, just plain bad? Episode 256 of the Hey You Guys Podcast is here, and this week, Liam and Rob take a long overdue back at John Carpenter's, 1981 politically charged, sci-fi action movie, Escape from New York....well, I say action movie, but honestly, the action here is both limited, and for the most part, not all that great. That's just fine though, because when you have visuals like this, an unforgettable score and a truly exceptional cast, you can kinda get away with it. Oh, and did we mention that it's also home to arguably the coolest character in cinema history? Sure, his hair is luxurious to a fault, his firearm is truly ludicrous and his vest is almost certainly made of lycra, but somehow (perhaps it's the eyepatch), Kurt Russel pulls it off and delivers one of the most iconic performances of the 80s.

The fourth and final part of our Box Office Bomb Season of podcasts is here, and this week, we look back at the criminally overlooked, and surprisingly insane, Hard Rain. This 1998 thriller / heist movie / neo western / action movie / Die Hard alike / Speed alike is, well, it's a lot of things. Tonally, it's all over the map, the script is wildly inconsistent, and many of the actors appear to be performing in different movies, but despite its issues, this remains a wildly entertaining ride, one that is well worth revisiting today. Listen in via your podcast platform of choice as we rewatch one of the stranger action movies of the 90s.

The third part of our Box Office Bomb season of podcasts is here, and this week, Liam and Rob look back at, what by some estimations, might be the biggest box office bomb of them all, 1999's, The 13th Warrior. A mess behind the scenes, this was a movie beset by huge delays, numerous reshoots and a major re-edit by producer, Michael Crichton that went a long way towards pushing the budget of well north of a 150 million dollars. With a budget as big as that, it was always likely that John McTiernan's dark historical epic would lose money.....but what of the movie itself? Has this cult classic aged like a fine wine? Does it deserve greater recognition? Did it survive the messy editing process? Listen in via your podcast platform of choice to find out.

The second part in our box office flop season of podcasts is here, and this week, Liam and Rob look back at the movie that 'supposedly' killed the pirate genre. That's up for debate, but what isn't is the fact that Cutthroat Island lost a huge amount of money, arguably did irreparable damage to both Gina Davis and Matthew Modine's careers, and ended up putting its production company, Carolco Pictures out of business. Yeah, Renny Harlin's pirate epic was an unequivocal financial disaster.....but what of the movie itself? Is it better than its meagre box office and rotten reputation would suggest? Is it worth giving this often overlooked swashbuckling extravaganza another go? Listen in via your podcast platform of choice to find out.
