Dale Hansen made a name for himself on TV in Dallas. Mostly as the nightly sports anchor at ABC-TV affiliate WFAA-TV where he's won Peabody awards, Emmy awards and has been inducted into The Texas Broadcasting Hall Of Fame. He's retired now but his career all started out at KCOB in Newton in 1972. In 1975 Dale had moved on to radio station KNIA in Knoxville, Iowa where he hired me while I was in High School which started me out on my 50 year career in broadcasting. In this podcast Dale talks about his days in Newton. He tells us about how Newton's first female Mayor threw a party that motivated him to have a HUGE party for several years at his ranch in texas, a few times for charity. His memories of The Newton Nighthawks. And, how, when a local politician, before an interview, handed him a list of questions for him to ask him, Dale threw away the questions and asked him what he wanted to ask him. As you will hear, Dale is a great story teller. This podcast is a bit longer than normal because, lets face it, we both a couple of radio/tv talkative guys who got paid to talk for a living and we could have gone longer. But, we'll get back to Dale with more stories at another time. Enjoy this podcast with a Dallas broadcasting legend who cherishes his time in Newton, Dale Hansen.
