Please like, follow, and subscribe.   BREAK: MORGAN MEDICAL JAN_FINAL STORY 1: Help local students at charity golf tournament this weekend Amateur golfers are invited to the Fifth Annual Drive, Putt and Chip Tournament on Saturday, May 3, at 9:30 a.m. at Ashton Hills Golf Course in Covington. Hosted by Fox 5 Atlanta meteorologist Jonathan Stacey, the event supports the Judge Horace J. Johnson Jr. Beyond the Bar Scholarship Foundation, which provides scholarships to students in Newton, Rockdale, and Walton counties. Participants can win prizes like a UGA helmet signed by Coach Kirby Smart, a Top Golf gift card, and more. Entry is $30 per player or $110 for a team of four. STORY 2: Buckhead Man Charged With Terroristic Threats And Aggravated Assault After Dispute With Firefighter Kenneth Bailey, 58, of Buckhead, was arrested on April 24 for aggravated assault and terroristic threats after allegedly attempting to run over a Morgan County firefighter during a dispute over a suspected illegal burn on his property. Firefighters reported black smoke and metal components in the fire, violating his burn permit for organic materials. Bailey allegedly threatened and drove aggressively at firefighter Allen Hagler, who had to jump to avoid being hit. Despite claiming he had a permit, Bailey’s actions led to charges after witness statements were collected. He remains in custody at the Morgan County Jail. STORY 3: Court reduces DUI charge against Harold Cooper Former Newton County Manager Harold Cooper’s DUI charge has been reduced to reckless driving, with a second traffic charge dismissed. Cooper pleaded guilty in Walton County Probate Court, paying a $1,251 fine. He was placed on administrative leave in February and parted ways with the county in March, though he will be paid through his contract ending May 7. Cooper, who served as county manager since May 2023, expressed gratitude for his time in Newton County. His case was overseen by a Walton County judge after a local judge recused herself. STORY 5: JDA to disburse $5.5 million this spring The Joint Development Authority (JDA) of Jasper, Morgan, Newton, and Walton Counties has amended its FY 2025 budget to disburse $5.5 million in payments in lieu of taxes (PILOT) from developments in Stanton Springs North and South, including Rivian and Meta projects. Meta, with five completed data center buildings, contributed $5 million, while Rivian added $1.5 million, with $500,000 disbursed and the rest reserved for expenses. Additionally, Takeda Pharmaceutical paid over $6.3 million in property taxes directly to the counties. Funds are distributed based on each county's investment, with Social Circle receiving 5% of Rivian’s disbursement.
