  • 210. A Mother’s Faith: Learning from Mary this Easter
    Apr 1 2026

As we enter Easter week, this episode reflects on the life of Mary, the mother of Jesus, and the powerful example of her faith through every season. From being chosen by God, walking through deep suffering, to waiting in silence, and finally rejoicing in the resurrection, Mary’s journey reminds us that God is present in every chapter.

For widows and single moms, this is a hope-filled reminder: God sees you, He is with you, and He is working, even in the quiet and uncertain moments.

    Key Takeaways:

God is with you in every season of your life

You can trust God even when you do not understand

Waiting seasons are not wasted—God is working

Resurrection reminds us that loss does not have the final word

    Scriptures Mentioned:

    Luke 1:45, John 10:10, 19:26–27, Acts 1:4–5, 14, Ephesians 1

    Encouragement for Moms:

Mary’s story is not just a story of the past; it is an invitation for your present.

    You may be:

Pondering questions you do not have answers to

    Walking through deep suffering

Sitting in a season that feels quiet and unseen

    Waiting on God to move

Just like Mary, you can trust that God is with you in every moment. He has not stepped away from your life. He is present, faithful, and still working.

  • 209. Be Still and Know That I Am God (Psalm 46)
    Mar 25 2026

When life feels urgent, loud, and out of control, the invitation to “be still” can feel impossible. In this episode, we take a deeper look at Psalm 46 and what it truly means to cease striving and trust God in the middle of uncertainty.

Through the picture of a sacred pause, we explore how stillness becomes a place of refuge where we bring our fears, lies, and overwhelming emotions before the Lord, and allow Him to be our defender. Looking at the example of Hezekiah and the promises found in Scripture, we are reminded that God is ever present, actively at work, and faithful in every battle we face.

For widows and single moms, this is an invitation to release what cannot be controlled, trust God’s timing, and rest in His strength.

    Key Takeaways:

Stillness is choosing to cease striving and trust God

You can bring every lie and fear before the Lord

God is your refuge, your defender, and ever-present help

Waiting on God is trusting His timing

    Scripture Focus:

    Exodus 14:14, Psalm 4:4, Psalm 37:7, Psalm 46:1, 5, 10, Psalm 68:5

    Encouragement for Moms:

Mom, when everything feels overwhelming, you do not have to carry it all or solve it all today. God invites you into stillness to rest under His care and trust Him with what feels out of control.

He is near. He is your defender. And He is faithfully at work.

  • 208. When Your Son Starts Dating: Wisdom for Single Moms
    Mar 18 2026

Spring often brings milestone moments like school dances, first dates, and new relationships. For single mothers, this season can stir both pride and concern. How do you guide your son as he begins to step into manhood without a father at home to model dating, marriage, and masculinity?

In this Mom and Man episode of Raising Fatherless Kids, Lori is joined by her son, Evan Apon, for an honest and practical conversation about dating, dances, relationships, and the unique challenges fatherless boys may face as they grow into young men.

Together, Lori and Evan talk about the gaps many fatherless boys feel, the importance of godly male mentors, how moms can help prepare sons for dating with wisdom and boundaries, and why respect, purity, and intentionality matter from the very beginning.

This episode offers both encouragement and practical insight for moms who want to help their sons honor the Lord in relationships and grow into men of character.

    Takeaways from this episode:

    • Fatherless boys often feel the absence of a dad more deeply during dating milestones

    • Moms can help lay a foundation of respect, responsibility, and godly character

    • Sons need godly men who can speak wisdom into their lives

    • God remains faithful to father and guide your child through every season

    Key encouragement from this episode:

You do not have to do this alone. God is Father to the fatherless, and He is faithful to guide both you and your son through every new season. Even when the road feels unfamiliar, the Lord sees your child, watches over him, and will help you lead with wisdom, prayer, and grace.

This podcast has been a miracle the last few days that I have listened. I have every intention to go back and listen from the beginning. I wish I found it sooner. I’m almost 7 year out from the loss of my husband. I had two beautiful children with him. They were just babies 4 and 6 weeks when he died. This podcast is heaven sent. I just know it will help me with them now and well into the future. I appreciate the resources that Lori shares as well. God Bless her and her children.
