On today’s Hello Houston, we learn about what’s in store for Houston’s first Fleet Week, which will also mark the first time a Texas city has hosted this long-standing naval tradition, with the event’s co-chair, Reda Hicks, and Margaret Kidd, a special advisor for the Houston Maritime Center & Museum.
Then, we talk with Diego Noria and Raquel Natalicchio, founders of the Divine Art Coalition, who tell us about the non-profit’s mission of preserving the city’s cultural legacy and their series of street soccer tournaments.
In the second hour, we’re joined by small business owner, former city and state campaign worker, and candidate for Houston City Council’s District C seat, Nick Hellyar, who discusses the upcoming runoff election and responds to questions from Hello Houston listeners.
Plus, we also talk with Megan Green, Director of Foster Care for the DePelchin Children’s Center, who discusses the comprehensive services the center provides to address child abuse, in recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month.
And, as always, Ernie Manouse and Celeste Diaz Schurman talk about today’s top stories at the top of each hour, including Texas Governor Greg Abbott threatening to cut $110 million in public safety grants to the city of Houston, which they discuss with Houston Public Media reporter Dominic Anthony Walsh, and Pope Leo XIV pushing back on the criticism he’s received from President Trump.
