  • 422. Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts* (*New Avengers?) REVIEW (SPOILERS)

    Thunderbolts* is the newest entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It features a cavalcade of characters from other Marvel movies/shows. Red Guardian, Winter Soldier, Yelena (a Black Widow), Ghost, and US Agent (formerly Captain America) all band together when they find themselves under attack by CIA Director Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. This is the final movie of Phase 5 of the MCU. One final release, Ironheart, is scheduled for June 2025.


    Shortly after the movie’s release, the marketing posters and billboards replaced the Thunderbolts* title with *New Avengers.”


    Eddie Pence is a stand-up comedian and host of many podcasts, including the Ralph Report with Ralph Garman. In this episode, Pence discusses the use of Sentry in this film and where it stands in the overall Marvel Cinematic Universe.

    Daredevil: Born Again is the latest Disney+ series from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It is a sequel series to the Daredevil show that originally aired on Netflix from 2015 to 2018. It stars Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin. Both characters reprised their roles in other Marvel shows/films since the end of the Daredevil show. This show picks up the storyline where those shows/films left off.

  • 420. Lenore Zann Returns! Rogue on X-Men ’97!

    X-Men ’97 is the sequel series to the original X-Men: The Animated Series that aired from 1992 to 1996. Lenore Zann was Rogue in the original show and reprised the role for the new show. Rogue has a major character arc, and Zann has received worldwide praise for her performance.


    Zann is a former member of Canada’s Parliament, having served four term and recently completed her final term. She first appeared on Episode 179 which was at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. As a member of Parliament, that episode spent a huge amount of time on Covid-19. She also discussed her upbringing and playing Rogue in the original series.


    In this episode, she talks openly about how she got the role of Rogue again. She talks about the key plot points (SPOILERS) and how she felt about her performance. She also announced that recording for Season 3 of X-Men ’97 was beginning while Season 2 has not aired yet.


    Zann has written a book, entitled “A Rogue’s Tale,” and discussed how that came about.

    Longtime screenwriter and animation writer Jeremy Adams makes his third appearance on the podcast to discuss his new deal with DC Comics. After establishing himself in animation, he was offered an opportunity to write The Flash comics. After a successful run, Adams has moved on to Green Lantern and Aquaman, to name a few. In February 2025, Adams signed a multi-year exclusivity contract with DC Comics.


    In this episode, Adams talks openly about the current state of the comic book industry. He talks about the various projects he is working on, and what the future holds for his books and the medium as a whole. He previously was profiled in Episode 223 and debated the legacy of Superman’s son Jonathan Kent in Episode 304.

    Kraven the Hunter is the latest in a series of Spider-Man “spin-off” movies produced by Sony Pictures. It follows the Venom trilogy, Morbius, and Madame Web. It stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Sergei Kravinoff. J.C. Chandor directed it.


    Adam Rose was a Story Consultant for the film. He is also a sketch comedy performer, a writer, and now a comic book writer. His new series, Hugh Detective, is now in comic stores, published by Titan Comics.


    In this episode, Rose discusses his role in the movie and where it fits into a “Spider-Verse” without actually featuring Spider-Man. He talks about the character’s extensive history and how he wove it into the film.

    Spider-Man is a character that has an extensive animation history. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is the newest entry in animation of the wall-crawler. When the show was originally announced, it was supposed to be a “prequel” of the Spider-Man character portrayed by Tom Holland in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, during production, the decision was made to have this show exist in its own universe. Still, there are many similarities and easter eggs referencing the MCU. Does this add or detract from this animated series?


    Swara Salih returns to the podcast and is named the Hall of Justice “Spider-Man” insider. Salih is a freelance writer and podcaster who has written for But Why Tho?, io9, Polygon, The New Arab, and The Nerds of Color, and co-hosts The Middle Geeks podcast.

    Captain America: Brave New World is the next chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It follows the storyline of Sam Wilson, who inherited the shield from Steve Rogers in Avengers: Endgame. Sam’s story continued in the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. It also takes plot points from The Eternals, The Incredible Hulk, and Captain America: Civil War. It stars Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Captain America and Harrison Ford, who takes over for the late William Hurt as “Thunderbolt” Ross, who is now the President.


    Acclaimed sportscaster Marshall Harris rejoins the podcast to contribute to the review. In this episode, they discuss the challenges for this movie, which includes in the introduction of Giancarlo Esposito through reshoots. They talk about the movie’s marketing, which included the Red Hulk. Plus, they talk about where this movie fits in the greater MCU.
