Welcome to the new season of the podcast, now titled "Growing Closer to God with Guided Meditation"!

Join your host, Pastor Robert Young, as we embark on a journey of spiritual exploration and renewal. This podcast is designed to help you deepen your faith and find inner peace through calming, reflective, and transformative meditative practices inspired by scripture.

Our Evolution

While the podcast, formerly known as Not Your Parent's Religion, focused in Seasons 1 and 2 on correcting misinformation and myths about religious beliefs and the teaching of Jesus Christ, the program has evolved. In Season 3, we began drawing closer to God with guided meditations, exploring all the details of why and how to meditate, and discussing the Biblical origins of Christian meditations.

With over 30 years of experience in Church planting and mentoring other Pastors, and 30+ years of training leaders in evangelism/discipleship, Pastor Young is here to guide you through these moments of stillness and connection with God.

What to Expect in Season 4

We are excited to return with Season 4 starting Sunday, October 5. We will continue to offer a structured weekly schedule:

  • Sundays: Our weekly guided meditation episode.
  • Monday through Friday: Daily devotions and reflections that expand on the topic of the Sunday meditations.
  • Wednesdays: Audio episodes of our House Church series. This series reflects the Bible's teaching that believers should gather together for corporate worship, fellowship, encouragement, and even admonishment.

For those seeking an enhanced experience, we are adding video versions of the meditations and devotions to our Patreon page. These videos are designed to give you a more immersive experience as you meditate on the Father, His teachings, and His presence.

Tune in each week as we lead you on this path to connecting more deeply with God.

  • Renew Your Mind Day 8 | You are a Citizen of a Different Kingdom
    Jan 11 2026

Noise is easy to find; a higher vantage point takes intention. We open the day by anchoring in John 18:36—Jesus’ claim that His kingdom is not of this world—and explore how that single truth can disrupt anxiety, quiet the need to control outcomes, and reshape the way we respond to headlines, conflict, and uncertainty.

We walk through a simple, reverent flow: confession that clears the heart, worship that lifts the gaze, and a vivid guided image that contrasts the mud of frantic striving with the clear air of kingdom perspective. From there, we break down what it means for origin to shape method: if our citizenship is in heaven, we don’t fight with fear, manipulation, or rage. Instead, we carry authority rooted in the finished work of Christ. You’ll hear practical language for recognizing when you’re playing by the world’s rules and how to pivot toward rest without losing purpose or courage.

To make it concrete, we pose three piercing questions that turn theology into practice, then lock truth into place with daily affirmations: I am a citizen of heaven; my peace is not tied to outcomes; my King has overcome. The result is a calm, resilient mindset that can withstand bad news, soothe relational tension, and focus your energy on what actually matters. If you’re ready to step out of the noisy marketplace and walk with the King to higher ground, this teaching will help you build a habit of kingdom peace you can live by today. Subscribe, share with a friend who needs calm, and leave a review to tell us the one change you’ll make this week.

  • Renew Your Mind Day 6 | More Than Personal Renewal
    Jan 9 2026

What if a changed life is the clearest message of hope someone will hear today? We explore 2 Corinthians 5:17–18 and unpack the bold claim that becoming a new creation is more than personal renewal—it’s a call to participate in reconciliation. With clear, practical language, we trace how old patterns give way to a new identity and how that identity naturally overflows into everyday relationships, choices, and conversations that point back to grace.

We talk about transformation you can see: the slow mending of fractured habits, the courage to forgive, and the steady witness of integrity. Instead of lofty slogans, we focus on what people actually notice—consistency, humility, and the willingness to credit God for real change. You’ll hear why your story matters as living proof of healing and restoration, and how a life aligned with mercy becomes a public signpost that says, “New beginnings are possible.” We frame this calling through the lens of reconciliation, not as pressure to fix people, but as an invitation to show up, listen well, and help others find their way toward hope.

To make it concrete, we offer two reflection prompts: Who in your life needs to know that fresh starts are real, and how can your story encourage someone this week? We close with a short prayer asking God to keep our hearts open, to guard us from hoarding grace, and to use our lives as bridges rather than walls. If you’re ready to live as an ambassador of new life—clear, kind, and courageous—this message will give you language, focus, and a next step.

If this encouraged you, follow the show, share it with a friend who needs hope, and leave a review so more people can find these messages.

  • Renew Your Mind Day 5 | The Newness is Here!
    Jan 8 2026

    Send us a text

What changes when “new” is not a promise for later but a reality you can live right now? We open Romans 6:4 and explore how being buried with Christ and raised to new life reshapes the way we handle stress, conflict, and daily habits. Instead of waiting for the right feeling, we frame newness as identity: you are made new, so you can act with strength, choose peace, and forgive with power.

We break this down in simple, practical language. You’ll hear how to put on the new self like getting dressed each morning, turning ordinary moments into opportunities to practice trust and courage. We talk through what new perspective looks like when you’re stuck in traffic or facing a tense meeting, why peace is the presence of Christ rather than the absence of trouble, and how power shows up in small decisions—an extra breath before you reply, a kinder tone, a boundary set with clarity. Along the way, we share two reflection prompts to make the shift concrete: how you’ll approach your biggest stressor today if you truly believe the new is here, and one new reaction or habit you’ll practice before the day ends.

We close with a short prayer, asking God to open our eyes to the resources already at hand and to guide how we walk in newness at work, at home, and in our minds. If you’re hungry for a faith that changes Tuesday afternoons as much as Sunday mornings, this message is for you. Listen, try one new response, and tell us what changed. If this encouraged you, subscribe, share it with a friend who needs fresh hope, and leave a rating so more people can walk in newness today.
