  • 419B. Pragmatic Climate Reset - The 90% Clean Energy Solution
    Dec 3 2025

In Michael Liebreich's Pragmatic Climate Reset, he calls for an end to polarizing all-or-nothing climate action. He says we can get to 90% clean energy by dropping the absolute goals of getting to 100% renewable energy and banning fossil fuels.Getting to 90% can be done efficiently, cost-effectively by focusing on the cheapest energy solutions and using some natural gas.And besides, he says, by the time we get to 90% clean energy, we will know what to do about the last 10% that appears cost-prohibitive today.

This is part 2 in our series on Michael Liebreich's Pragmatic Climate Reset.

  • 419A. The Pragmatic Climate Reset wity Michael Liebreich - Is 2 Degrees doable?
    Nov 27 2025

The focus of the world has shifted dramatically since the election of President Donald Trump and in the wake of trade wars and economic woes that seem to dominate the news cycles. This has also led to climate change taking a back seat, and some critics are suggesting the energy transition is dead.Whoa, not so fast, says Michael Liebreich, investor, energy expert, and founder of Bloomberg New Energy Finance.Rumours of the death of the energy transition are greatly exaggerated, he says, and he’s got a plan to revitalize the energy transition and climate action. He says what’s needed is a major pragmatic climate reset. In part one of our Green Energy Futures CKUA series on the Pragmatic Reset, Liebreich makes the case for pragmatism, an end to absolutism, and a new, more inclusive energy transition.

  • 419. Full Interview - What the world needs now is a Pragmatic Climate Reset says Michael Liebreich
    Nov 27 2025

What the world needs now is a Pragmatic Climate Reset. So says Michael Liebreich, investor, energy transition expert and the founder of Bloomberg New Energy Finance.Driven by the potential catastrophic impacts posed by climate change people and the nations of the world have pushed to eliminate fossil fuels, move to 100% renewable energy and to get to net-zero by 2050.These are laudable goals, but not all of them are plausible to achieve says Michael Liebreich in our wide ranging interview on his push for a major reset in how we tackle climate change. He's NOT saying we abandon action on climate change, but that we change the narrative from one that is deeply polarizing to one that is inclusive, and recognizes the concerns of people for not only climate impacts but also their livlihoods, and wellbeing. On the contrary Liebreich is saying we can take faster action, by being much more strategic in the actions we take and to stop our focus on something he calls absolutism - goals that that are founded in the real threat of climate change instead of their practicality.FULL INTERVIEW🟢 GreenEnergyFutures.ca CKUA.com Podcast❤️ Subscribe Today - We have more than 400 episodes!✅ BLOG - GreenEnergyFutures.ca✅ PODCAST - https://open.spotify.com/show/1IFLWH0wmCBwpEF7BQv7FA?si=7b384d7e63c0493c✅ SUPPORT OUR WORK - Buy Me a Coffee - https://buymeacoffee.com/greenfuturesGreen Energy Futures is a passion project. Sep 30 2025

FULL INTERVIEW - Canada lost a great athlete, statesman, and author this year when hockey legend Ken Dryden passed away. We reached into our radio archives for this exclusive interview carried out on the banks of the Athabasca River in 2003 when Ken Dryden participated in the Boreal Rendezvous canoe expedition from Fort McKay to Wood Buffalo National Park in Alberta. In this interview with David Dodge, a very relaxed Ken Dryden reveals another side of the hockey legend. He talks about the Boreal Forest, his time as president of the Toronto Maple Leafs, and some of his favourite experiences on his first-ever canoe expedition on a river.

  • 418A. Canoeing on the Athabasca River with Ken Dryden - Part 1
    Sep 30 2025

Canada lost an amazing athlete, statesman and author this year when Ken Dryden passed away.

I had the pleasure of joining Dryden on Boreal Rendezvous, an epic canoe adventure on the Athabasca River in 2003 in support of Boreal Forest conservation.

This week, we remember Ken Dryden in this interview recorded on a sandbar on the Athabasca River.

In Part 1 of our CKUA series, Ken shares the story of how he wound up on this adventure and his first impressions of the great boreal forest.

  • 417. Nova Scotia says offshore wind could provide 27% of Canada’s electricity
    Sep 24 2025

VIDEO - Nova Scotia is bullish on offshore wind power. They just offered leases for the development of 5 gigawatts of offshore wind capacity. That's twice the annual electricity consumption in Nova Scotia. And they have already identified suitable areas for up to 60 gigawatts of offshore wind development. That's enough to provide 27% of Canada's electricity. Surprisingly, these will be the first offshore wind projects in Canada, even though the technology is widely used in China, the UK, the US, and other countries. We talk to Elisa Obermann, executive director of Marine Renewables Canada, who says Premier Tim Houston is a big advocate for the development, which he describes as nation-building.

  • 416. Nation Building: What's in it for Guelph?
    Sep 17 2025

Amidst the trade wars, geopolitical and economic turmoil, Prime Minister Mark Carney is fast-tracking what he calls nation-building mega projects.

BUT "Instead of ‘building fossil fuel and mining mega projects,’ Evan Ferrari says we need to build 'decentralized megaprojects' that are “small hyper local projects thattogether add up to a massive megaproject.”

Evan Ferrari is the executive director of Emerge Guelph Sustainability, a local climate change action group in Guelph, Ontario. He says what's needed in 2025 are distributed nation-building mega projects that help Canadians, fight climate change, and build the economy of tomorrow, instead of building "fossil fuel and mining mega projects" that exacerbate the climate crisis and entrench the economy in yesterday.
