  • 428. SkyFire Diversifies Markets As Utility Scale Renewables Tank in Alberta
    Mar 17 2026

SkyFire Energy, one of Alberta's oldest solar companies, just acquired Hakai Energy Solutions, diversifying its markets into Coastal British Columbia. The move also adds battery storage expertise and off-grid experience to their offerings. The move comes as utility-scale solar in Alberta has collapsed under the weight of a moratorium, policies hostile to large-scale renewables, and high levels of market uncertainty. At 25 years old, SkyFire is used to the ups and downs of the industry and has, from day one, focused on a diversified focus on home, commercial, and utility-scale solar. And they have slowly diversified their geographic markets as well.We talk to SkyFire CEO David Vonesch about the acquisition and the company's diversified approach. Apparently, rooftop and commercial solar is still growing quickly in Alberta, but utility-scale projects have all but vanished.Billions of investment have vanished from Alberta too, moving to markets like British Columbia, Ontario, and Quebec.🟢 GreenEnergyFutures.ca CKUA.com Podcast❤️ Subscribe Today - We have more than 400 episodes!✅ BLOG - GreenEnergyFutures.ca✅ PODCAST - https://open.spotify.com/show/1IFLWH0wmCBwpEF7BQv7FA?si=7b384d7e63c0493c✅ SUPPORT OUR WORK - Buy Me a Coffee - https://buymeacoffee.com/greenfuturesGreen Energy Futures is a passion project. • 427. Billions Lost from Alberta's Vanishing Renewable Energy Projects
    Mar 4 2026

Alberta's hostile treatment of the renewable energy industry has resulted in nearly 15 gigawatts of projects worth billions of dollars vanishing into thin air. In just a few years before the province's moratorium and subsequent policy changes, Alberta benefited from $6 billion in investment in renewable energy, 6,000 jobs, and $74 million in new tax revenue to cash-starved municipalities. We talk to Jorden Dye of the Business Renewables Centre Canada, an organization that tracks investments in Power Purchase Agreements with the industry. The volume is down 99% in the wake of policy changes.
