Understanding the Stages of Life, Faith, and Calling
In this teaching, Coach Tom walks through a powerful framework for understanding the seasons of life and spiritual development.

Drawing from the work of Richard Rohr and leadership researcher Bobby Clinton, he explains how God often shapes a person’s life through several distinct phases—from building and identity formation, through seasons of transition, and eventually into wisdom and legacy.

Coach Tom explores:
• The Heroic Journey (roughly ages 20–40) — building life, identity, and direction
• The Transition Years (40–55) — where humility, surrender, and deeper formation become essential
• The Wisdom Journey (55+) — learning to live a released life that blesses others

He also introduces Bobby Clinton’s six stages of leadership and faith development, showing how God intentionally shapes our lives through:
1. Sovereign Beginnings
2. Spiritual Formation
3. Gift Discovery & Development
4. Life Maturation
5. Convergence
6. Legacy

One of the most striking insights: only about 20% of believers reach the “convergence zone.”

This is the place where a person’s gifts, calling, experiences, and spiritual maturity come together in what Coach Tom calls “Kingdom flow.”

In this episode, Coach Tom gives you practical tools to become more self-aware, freer on the inside, and more aligned with God.

• Pay attention to it … Sometimes the tell is how you are feeling … pay attention to your feelings/body
• Clarify it
• Recognize its impact on your peace in Christ and experience of the Fruit of the Spirit

Some of the symptoms might be:

• Overthinking
• Noise on the inside
• A Sense of Isolation & Disconnect

Remember, if you are in Christ, Fruit of the Spirit … His Peace is already in you (Gal. 5:22; Col. 3:15)

1. Ask yourself how your thoughts are impacting all the fruit of the Spirit in you

2. Agree with God’s perspective

3. James 5:16 confess your sins … Hamartia … missing the mark, fault, failure, guilt

4. Pray for each other that you may be healed

In this message, we discuss the importance and power of intimacy.

Here is an outline related to the material:
• Would you say your family of origin was/is intimate?
• Do you know how to increase intimacy in your life?

Self-Discovery:
• We must choose to continually Grow & Learn
• Our Stories need to be updated – for intimacy to grow
• God reveals Himself to us …
… and ourselves to us
• His Light helps us get free to draw closer
His Light shines on the good and bad things
• Intimacy involves shared experience and understanding. If you don’t
know yourself – if you don’t experience yourself – if you don’t like
yourself, you cannot have intimacy w/ God / others
• Discover Yourself – through Module 1 … do the module WITH GOD

Disclosure
• Self-Discovery without sharing is not intimacy
• Learn to share who you are with God – shared and agreed, perspectives
“Say it, Pray it” – the clearer, more precise and specific, the better!
• Learn to share who you are – appropriately – with others
Spouse, Family, Friends, Workmates
“Say” and “Live” who you are

Vulnerability
• Transparency vs Vulnerability
Vulnerability includes entrusting ourselves to others (risk)
to experience response, care, and support
Transparency can be honest sharing, but remains self-protecting
 It helps people understand you (or know about you), but it doesn’t
increase intimacy

Self-Control
• We must take responsibility for our lives to aim and invest our lives [and
change and grow]
• With the help of the Holy Spirit, we break through strongholds and create
new life patterns.
• Lack of self-control can be passive, blaming others, or circumstances, or
oneself for why we aren’t growing and investing.
• In the Curriculum, this relates to Roles, Purpose, Rule of Life, Pruning
and Strategic Planning
