Going Beyond Functional Musicianship

Are "functional" music skills holding back the music therapy profession? Vienna Sa, MA, MT-BC unpacks how music therapists can move toward musical authenticity to better serve our clients. Vienna's talk was recorded at a music therapy "unconference" event hosted by Brea and Daniel in the summer of 2021, while the podcast conversation was recorded in spring of 2022.

Vienna Sa, MA, MT-BC holds dual Master's degrees in Music Therapy and Psychology. She serves as a professor music therapy and psychology courses. Her research primarily explores music's effect on neurological functioning and she is currently conducting studies on racial microaggressions. She developed and taught a Clinical Musicianship course incorporating clients' clinical and musical needs of today.
