Change can be one of the most stressful things in life, even when the change is desired. Resistance to change is natural to human nature. In fact, there is a saying in neuroscience that “neurons that fire together, wire together.” This means that the more we do something, the more it becomes not only habit, but biologically ingrained. It helps to explain why change takes so much effort, and why we naturally have a resistance to change.

Of course, we know that change is inevitable. We face change as we mature, as our bodies age, and as we interact with the world. We also know that change, in the Christian life, is desirable. In fact, it is God’s plan for us. He makes all things new Resistance to change—perspective is key.

We can lessen our resistance to change by keeping a divine perspective on life. God’s work of renewal in us is compared to that of a refiner’s fire (Zechariah 13:9; Malachi 3:2; Isaiah 48:10; 1 Peter 1:7) and to a gardener’s pruning shears (John 15:2). The process of refining or pruning tends to be unpleasant, so we resist. But the outcome of a refiner’s fire is purified precious metal. The result of pruning is a more plentiful crop. If we trust that God is at work through changes and that His desire is to sanctify us, then we may more willingly submit. This perspective is what brought Job peace in Job 23:10.

But what about the undesirable changes? We have no control over them, we don’t want them, but they happen anyway. We lose a job or become chronically ill. A friend moves away. A church leader steps down. Our resistance to these types of changes is even more entrenched. The end result of these changes may not be obvious. It is in these times that Romans 8:28 becomes a firm foundation. We know that God is working all things according to His purpose, and we know that His purpose is always good. So we can trust that He is using even undesirable changes for our benefit. It may be that an illness will draw us closer to God or draw our family closer together. It may be that God has a new calling for a new season of life.

Juan and John dig a little into why everything changes and why we adapt so well. We must. Resistance is futile.

    Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
    do not rely on your own understanding;
in all your ways know him, and he will make your paths straight.

What does it mean to trust God?

Why should we trust God and how can we rely on God?

These are just a couple questions we will be discussing. We are looking at Proverbs 5 more in depth and learning why we should trust God and are we a person that others can trust?

Juan and John today will be looking at the next chapter in Greg Ogden's Discipleship Essentials book and what it means to Trust.

How do we know if we are being filled with the Holy Spirit?

As we read in Galatians 5;22 the fruits of the Spirit are Love, Joy, Peace, Patience Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self-Control. These are in contrast to the works of the flesh or the desires of the sinful nature., which are very clear. Sexual Immorality, Impurity, Lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outburst of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties and sins like these.

Today Juan and John are going to talk about learning to be more like Christ and show the Holy Spirit's fruits in your life in the way we live and act with others. Showing Jesus in us and through us.

Don't take our word for it, open your Bible and read what the apostle Paul wrote to the church in Galatia spoken from direct revelation from Jesus.

The Holy Spirit is NOT an it, or an impersonal being or a force. The Holy Spirit is a HE. So we have to decide how we are going to respond to Him.

In Acts, Luke describes the Spirit as one who

    Speaks (1:16, 8;29, 10;19)

    is lied to (5;30)

    is tempted (5;9)

    bears witness (5;32)

    is resisted (7;51)

    gives orders (13;2)

    sends (13;4)

    thinks (15;28)

    prevents (16;7)

    appoints (20;28)

The Spirit is: another like Jesus,With us always, dwells in us

"The Spirit will glorify me" says Jesus (John 16;14)

The passion of the Spirit is to make the living Christ the center of our lives.

Join us as we explore how the Holy Spirit becomes part of our life.

    JUSTIFICATION

(Just as if I’d never sinned)

It is by Faith in Jesus Christ alone that we are declared right with (JUSTIFIED) God. God’s gift of Grace through our faith is the recognition of our utter moral bankruptcy and our inability to earn God’s favor and that we must receive and rest on Jesus Christ who has done it all.

“GOOD WORKS,” or our human efforts to please God, Should never be viewed as a means of our salvation, BUT, are clearly the evidence of it.

We are all guilty of sin. GUILTY AS CHARGED. But the penalty for sin is death. Jesus took on himself, the penalty for our sin, which is death. Not just one of our sins, but ALL of them.

You are free. The penalty has been paid.

Justification means that all the demands of the law have been made. The sacrifice, the shedding of blood.

Romans 3:24 “Yet God, in His grace, freely makes us right in His sight. He did this through Jesus Christ when He freed us from the penalty of our sins. 25. For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding His Blood”.

Mark 10:46 “Jesus did not come to be served but to serve”

You were bought at a price, you are not your own.

“Faith is just the opposite of our works based culture”

Works oriented success tells us to hold onto our pride and show God that we are pretty good people”

    “See what I’ve done?”

Faith means putting our entire trust in Jesus.

Faith is a choice. God created us with the ability to choose.

What’s your choice? Faith is Jesus or faith in you.

The word "redemption" carries several related meanings, generally revolving around the idea of being saved or restored. Here's a breakdown:

    ATONEMENT:

    * It can refer to the act of making up for a mistake, fault, or guilt. This involves seeking to correct a wrong.

    RESCUE

    * It can also mean being rescued or delivered from a negative situation.

    FINANCIAL CONTENT

    * It can also relate to the act of buying something back, such as redeeming a pawned item, or paying off a debt like a mortgage or bond.

    RELIGIOUS CONTENT:

    * In Christianity, "redemption" often signifies deliverance from sin and achieving salvation.

Essentially, "redemption" implies a process of being brought back from a negative state to a positive one.

*The GOOD NEWS is the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus.

Jesus paid the price for our sin and His resurrection gave us new life.

What does Jesus death on the cross have to do with me?

Seems like Jesus takes our sins personally!

Why is resurrection needed to complete REDEMPTION?

Death will remain the final enemy ( Hebrews 2:14-15)

Because God’s children are human beings—made of flesh and blood—the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the devil, who had the power of death. Only in this way could he set free all who have lived their lives as slaves to the fear of dying.

Because of the resurrection we read 1 Corinthians 15:54-55

“Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?”

`THE OLD IS GONE, THE NEW IS HERE

1 Corinthians 15:5 Since we have been united with him in his death, we will also be raised to life as he was. 6 We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin.

    God's amazing grace

Have you ever heard about living under the grace of God? Have you wondered what IS the grace of God or how does it affect me as I live my life each day?

Juan and John will discuss today what Grace is and how it affects us each day. What does the Bible say about Grace? Here are a few passages that show us the way of Grace.

    Romans 6:14

Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of GRACE

    Ephesians 2:8

God saved you by His grace when you believed. And you can't take credit for this, it is a gift from God.

God provides a free gift that Juan and John talk about in this episode. We also look at what it means to have grace towards others and how we can experience God's grace in our life.
