  • Are There Crawlers in Appalachia? || Scary Appalachia Stories || Ghosteas || Paranormal Podcast
    Apr 20 2026
Last summer, in episode 133, listener stories 53, Kharma wrote to us telling us about a chilling experience they had in the summer of 2020. They had seen what they described as a crawler… “My friends and I were on our way home from McDonalds super late at night and we saw a creature on the side of the road. It was very visibly malnourished, as you could see its ribs. The arms and legs were much longer than should be physically possible for any humanoid creature. The skin was grey in color, and it was hunched down beside a telephone pole. When I saw it, I hit the brakes and flipped my brights on to get a better look. It looked up at us, and then I can only assume that it climbed the telephone pole, because it happened at the speed of light. It basically just zipped into the sky and we didn't look upwards to find it because we just wanted to get to one of the friends' home (which was only about 500 feet from where we had seen the creature)... I talked to some people in town about my experience and was told two stories about a creature, identical description to what I saw on the side of the road, both stories happening within half a mile of where I saw it but over the span of at least 15 years before my encounter. I did some research (on Reddit) and found out that Crawlers are believed to stay in old cave systems. My town used to be a minetown, so there are tons of abandoned mines in the area, and what are mines if not man-made cave systems? So I checked out a map of the old mines, and there was a “mine dump” right near where my encounter and the other two encounters with the crawlers happened.” Since that time, I have been fascinated by these beings and have had this topic on my list of episodes. I initially believed that crawlers were concentrated around the Appalachia area (hence their place in Appalachia April) and they absolutely sound like something that belongs in these woods, but in doing my research, I have found that they go far beyond those mountains. They have been seen all over North America, and I have several stories for you today that will no doubt give you that same sense of unease as the rest of our topics have this month. So, I guess for this one it turns out to not be totally Appalachia based, but about something that does reside here and gives off that same Appalachia vibe. • HAUNTED TRAILS IN THE NORTHERN APPALACHIANS ~ Bar Harbor, Maine & Acadia National Park
    Apr 13 2026
Most of the time, when we think of Appalachia we think of the southern mountain ranges – places like Kentucky, West Virginia, and North Carolina. But the Appalachian Mountain Range technically stretches from Alabama to Newfoundland, and the Scottish Highlands are even believed to have once been a part of this ancient land when Pangea was formed. So I thought we'd dedicate an episode during Appalachia April to the north. Today, we’re telling haunting tales from a national park that’s part of this ancient mountain range, Acadia National Park, and a small island town nearby, Bar Harbor, Maine. We'll hit on places like the phantom trails, Ledgelawn Inn, Compass Harbor Trail, and the Devil's Oven...
