Nearly 33,000 people were forced from their homes in Manitoba due to wildfires in the spring and summer of 2025; the majority of them were from northern First Nations.
The risk to life, property and the land is increasing as wildfires become more frequent in the province, but that hasn't translated into better planning and coordination for evacuations, says Garrison Settee.
