science fiction novel from Aurora Award-winning author
James Bow (Icarus Down), comes out November 12 from
Shadowpaw Press—alongside Tales from the Silence, and
exciting collection of short fiction by a diverse group of
notable authors set in the same future, releasing from
Shadowpaw Press imprint Endless Sky Books.
In Bows’s detailed future setting, Earth’s civilization,
overwhelmed by environmental catastrophe and war, all
but collapses. To the far-flung residents of colonies on
Mars, Venus, Mercury and in the Asteroid Belt, it’s the
falling of the Silence, and in its wake, they must struggle
to survive.
The Sun Runners is set on Mercury, where cities on rails
constantly move around the planet ahead of the deadly
sunrise. Tales from the Silence tells stories from all over
the solar system, including on Earth itself, that trace the
fallout from Earth’s collapse.
“I’m delighted to have The Sun Runners out in the wild
after years of work,” James Bow says. “Shadowpaw Press
has really given their best to this book, and I hope it
makes a good connection with readers. Tales from the
Silence was extremely fun to put together, thanks to the
energy of the contributing authors. I’m grateful they
accepted my invitation to play in my sandbox, and I am
especially grateful for their contributions to my universe.
Thanks to Shadowpaw’s Endless Sky Imprint for making
this companion anthology a reality.”
“I’m thrilled to be publishing both of these great science
fiction titles,” says Edward Willett, publisher of
Shadowpaw Press. “James’s detailed future world was a
joy to immerse myself in through both The Sun Runners
and Tales from the Silence, and I can’t wait to share that
joy with readers.”
James Bow writes science fiction and fantasy for both kids and adults. He’s been a fan of
science fiction since his family introduced him to Doctor Who on TV Ontario in 1978, and his
mother read him classic sci-fi and fantasy from such authors as Clifford Simak and J.R.R. Tolkien.
James won the 2017 Prix Aurora Award for best YA Novel in Canada for Icarus Down.
By day, James is a communications officer for a charitable land trust protecting lands from
development in Waterloo Region and Wellington County. He also loves trains and streetcars.
He lives in Kitchener, Ontario, with his two kids, and his spouse/fellow writer/partner-in-crime,
Erin Bow. You can find him online at jamesbow.ca.
