  • Garden of Thought E.306 Anime Mythology or Schrodinger's Pinocchio
    Jul 19 2025
When we ask C The Superior to present on a topic as our apprentice host, she always brings the research.

She takes me through some of the premier Anime properties and their relationship to mythologies. Primarily Shintoism. But Taoism and Chinese myths are visited. Especially when we talk about how Goku and Dragonball Z is The Monkey King and Journey to the East!

Along the way, there are the usual diversions and meanderings. Including a restatement on kung fu witches built like Baywatch in school girl uniforms.

Do we find other mythological parallels? Why is Schrodinger referenced and what does this have to do with Pinocchio or Anime?

  • GoT Presents The Gospel of Thomas - VICIOUS VICKI VENUTO
    Jul 14 2025
We meet Vicious Vicki Venuto. She's a Jersey Girl. A Jersey Shore girl to be precise. And she'll kick your teeth in if you don't like it.

Our own Mr. Thomas was a Jersey Shore guy because of course he was. They share tales and stereotypes.

We explore the Lubabu(?) craze. We talk food. We always talk food. Did she have any supernatural experiences or beliefs? Turns out everyone does.

    What's the New Jersey Devil?

Why is the University of New Jersey known by a different name? Jets or Giants or are both colonizers?

All this and some wrestling related content.

  • Garden of Thought E.305 Science Based Skepticism
    Jul 12 2025
John Michael Godier is a scientist and an avid follower in the UFO phenomena. He hosts the Event Horizon podcast and has a huge YouTube channer of the same name. He's also the author of two science fiction novels. He's spoken to everyone even remotely in field from Professor Avi Loeb to the disclosure skeptics and advocates.

We discuss many of the recent stories including the disclosure efforts from certain nations, our interstellar visitors, the Ferme paradox, etc.

We also visit some issues that aren't well reported as they occurred in the Soviet Union during the Cold War.

I want to thank our mutual friend, Kristaps, for helping to put this together. If you'd like to support his work and The Eastern Border show, he has authentic Soviet era war plan maps recently found in a Latvian warehouse. Prices are reasonable and these are one of a kind authentic pieces of history. Please email Kris at theeasternborder@gmail.com.

  • Garden of Thought E.304 DEA
    Jul 9 2025
Brian Townsend was in law enforcement for approximately three decades; primarily with the United States Drug Enforcement Agency. Since retired, he's involved with a 501C3 non profit educating and reaching regarding the extraordinary dangers of fetanyl.

We discuss his upbringing and professional career. He explains the remit of the DEA and we explore how the DEA works in other countries, the chain of command, and separates fact from fiction. Jeffzikastan plays a large role. International law and law enforcemant is discussed. No one knows exactly what Interpol is. How do Ambassadors fit in? Are different Warrants handled differently? What standard of law must be applied?

Brian is very frank in his answers and we had a lot of fun. But pay close attention to the portions dedicated to his cause and the non profit organization. It's important work. The statistics are staggering. And they need your support.

Hillary Johns is a business and trial litigator. Her offices are in Beverly Hills, San Francisco and New York. So, you know she's not messing around. But she's also an attorney that spends a lot of time with new and small businesses.

We discuss what a new businessperson should consider. What is necessary. What is good to seriously consider. And what are warning signs and items people routinely ignore...until it's too late. If I did this show solo, it would have been 85% identical on substance. But it's better if you don;t hear it from me, but a guest. Of course, this show is not legal advice and is for entertainment and informational purposes only. You should always talk to your own independent counsel.

Anyway, what do we have to say to you potential to mid-experienced businesspeople? Hit play.

  • Garden of Thought E.301 The Silence
    Jun 29 2025
The Sun Runners, the latest young adult/new adult
science fiction novel from Aurora Award-winning author
James Bow (Icarus Down), comes out November 12 from
Shadowpaw Press—alongside Tales from the Silence, and
exciting collection of short fiction by a diverse group of
notable authors set in the same future, releasing from
Shadowpaw Press imprint Endless Sky Books.
In Bows’s detailed future setting, Earth’s civilization,
overwhelmed by environmental catastrophe and war, all
but collapses. To the far-flung residents of colonies on
Mars, Venus, Mercury and in the Asteroid Belt, it’s the
falling of the Silence, and in its wake, they must struggle
    to survive.
The Sun Runners is set on Mercury, where cities on rails
constantly move around the planet ahead of the deadly
sunrise. Tales from the Silence tells stories from all over
the solar system, including on Earth itself, that trace the
    fallout from Earth’s collapse.
“I’m delighted to have The Sun Runners out in the wild
after years of work,” James Bow says. “Shadowpaw Press
has really given their best to this book, and I hope it
makes a good connection with readers. Tales from the
Silence was extremely fun to put together, thanks to the
energy of the contributing authors. I’m grateful they
accepted my invitation to play in my sandbox, and I am
especially grateful for their contributions to my universe.
Thanks to Shadowpaw’s Endless Sky Imprint for making
    this companion anthology a reality.”
“I’m thrilled to be publishing both of these great science
fiction titles,” says Edward Willett, publisher of
Shadowpaw Press. “James’s detailed future world was a
joy to immerse myself in through both The Sun Runners
and Tales from the Silence, and I can’t wait to share that
    joy with readers.”

James Bow writes science fiction and fantasy for both kids and adults. He’s been a fan of
science fiction since his family introduced him to Doctor Who on TV Ontario in 1978, and his
mother read him classic sci-fi and fantasy from such authors as Clifford Simak and J.R.R. Tolkien.
James won the 2017 Prix Aurora Award for best YA Novel in Canada for Icarus Down.
By day, James is a communications officer for a charitable land trust protecting lands from
development in Waterloo Region and Wellington County. He also loves trains and streetcars.
He lives in Kitchener, Ontario, with his two kids, and his spouse/fellow writer/partner-in-crime,
Erin Bow. You can find him online at jamesbow.ca.
