Anita Doll Darling opens up about her journey being Christian and gay, her religious upbringing, and coming to terms with accepting and loving herself just as God does despite what the church may say. LGBTQ people often feel excluded and outcast from religion but there is a way for everyone to find God, or whatever form of spirituality speaks to you. God made you perfectly, and loves everyone just the way you are.

  • The Importance of Straight Allies & Officiating a Lesbian Wedding
    Sep 30 2022

    Become a Sponsor: themodpodstudio@gmail.com

Hi dynamos and darlings! It’s me, Mariah. This week we get personal. As members of the LGBTQ+ community, both Anita and I know first hand how important straight allies are. We have both experienced losing people in our lives because of who we are & we want to use this platform to motivate all of you to be an ally in your life. We are joined by the ultimate ally, and amazing special guest, Laine Kelly Sims. Thank you for listening & we hope you enjoy!

As always we start off our show with setting an intention. This has become such a crucial part of the show. Not only does it set the stage, but we hope it helps all of you incorporate positive intentions in your life. For this week's Mega Minute, I decided to talk about what’s happening in Iran and how we can help. WARNING: Because of sanctions, it is illegal to fundraise for Iran, so be wary if you see places to donate. What Iranians need is solidarity, support and continuous conversations about what is happening in the Middle East. Let’s not let this story be brushed away by the next headline. SAY HER NAME, Mahsa Amini, and so many others are losing their lives in this fight. Share stories, videos and talk to your family and friends about what is happening in Iran. This is a very serious and upsetting topic, but we can’t let that stop us from doing the right thing.

This week's celebrity rewind is dedicated to one of our favorite allies, Cher!! As many of you know, Cher has always been an ally and supportive of the community. In 2010, JD interviewed the cast of Burlesque, including Cher & Stanley Tucci. Tune in to see exclusive footage of the two discussing the future of the country.

In our guest segment, Laine Kelly Sims, joins us to talk about what it means to be a Christian ally. Anita is super vocal about her relationship with Christianity, she is “spiritually loud and sexually proud!”. Anita and Laine met at New Abbey, a gay affirming church. They instantly bonded and when Laine shared some of her story, we knew she would be the perfect guest for a show like this. Laine tells her story, her relationship with the church & what it means to be an ally to the LGBTQ+ community. When Laine officiated a lesbian wedding, her church reacted by demoting her volunteer position and wanted to separate her from the rest of the church. They didn’t want her to “influence” other church members. She realized a lot in this experience and changed her path to make it a priority to go to a church that is gay affirming and supportive of the LGBTQ+ community. This story is so important and we want everyone to know just how important allies like Laine are.

In our final block of the show, Anita explains her drag queen journey. Showing you exclusive (and funny) footage of her journey to drag! From the first time she did her own makeup, to the confidence she has now.

Thank you for joining us & welcome to the family!

A lot of us have experienced burnout or feeling stuck in a routine. Stuck in a life that we didn't choose for ourselves. Feeling like we're just doing what were "supposed to do", getting lost in societies standards for us and not actually doing what makes us happy.

Hi Dynamos & Darlings, Mariah here! In this episode, I join Anita and guest, DeMarcus Eckford, to discuss how to change your script. How to make your life, your own. Follow your dreams, define your own success and be happy in the way you want. We introduce a new segment, "Mariah's Mega Minute", where each week I will share a topic, issue or maybe just tell a story. This week I decided to share something that is very important for all of us to hear. Far right extremists, white supremacist's and the proud boys have been targeting the LGBTQ+ community for a long time and lately the focus has been on the drag community. So much happens in this country, sometimes it feels overwhelming and hard to keep up. I completely understand that, but at the same time feel some responsibility to bring up important issues and hopefully have a positive effect on our community. UpRising Bakery Cafe, LGBTQ+ owned and operated, has been under attack. Proud boys and Trumpsters have been showing up and protesting violently because the café hosts family friendly drag brunches. On a positive note, this story is getting so much coverage the community and allies are showing up to support and counter protest. If you wish to donate, click the link above.

As hard as it is to hear stories like this one, it's a true testament to all of us putting in the work to change the script that society has built. Towards the end of the show, Anita goes through a list of LGBTQ+ artists and activists who did just this. Because of all the work they put in, and we continue to put in, we are seeing progression in our society.

Who's the perfect guest for a show about changing your script? Well, a working actor of course! DeMarcus Eckford joins us today to discuss how he got to where he is in his career, steps to make it happen and how he defines his success. DeMarcus is a working actor in Hollywood, something so many dream of. You may recognize him from some popular commercials; Wayfair, Carvana, Beef, starring alongside Tony Romo, & more. In this segment both Anita and DeMarcus share tips on how they create the life they desire. Including Anita's "5-Steps to a Life That Serves You"! Of course, we have to take a deep dive into the celebrity archives from JD's past & this week, it's all about the live action Cinderella. JD sat down with Kenneth Branagh, Lily James & Richard Madden in 2015 when the film came out. They discuss how this Cinderella really changes the traditional story in favor of gender equality.

We hope you enjoy! We love you!!

  • Relationships, Sign Compatibility & Pierce Brosnan on Gay Marriage
    Sep 15 2022

Relationships are one of the biggest aspects of being a human being. No matter who we are, who we love, what we believe in, we all have relationships in our lives. From romantic to platonic to familial.

In this episode I talk about it all alongside Mariah and special guest, Angelica Perman. Angelica is a global intuitive guide, sound healer & best selling author. You may also know her from her show (The Angelica Perman Show) that we produce here at ModPod! She answers all my questions about relationships in connection to spirituality and astrology. We go over what the lovers card in tarot really means, sign compatibility, twin flames and more! We’ve all heard about “twin flames”, but is it real? Are Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox actually twin flames, destined to be together? Angelica breaks it all down, you do not want to miss it!

Here at GGT, we like to start every show with a moment of intention. Sometimes it's a prayer, sometimes it's a quote or maybe a meditation. Something so special about this show is that we have different beliefs & we will never tell you what to believe in or that what you believe is wrong. Mariah & I are proof of this, we always come together to share and connect the differences between each of us. This week, Mariah discusses how to set an intention for your relationship and gives you the tools to do this in your own life. And of course it wouldn’t be Gals, Gays & They’s if we didn’t get into LGBTQ+ relationships! This week we look back at my cousin JD’s celebrity interview archive and pull from 2004, when he was a celebrity reporter at CNN! JD sat down with Pierce Brosnan and Julianne Moore to interview them for their movie, Laws of Attraction. In 2004 gay marriage was a major political debate & still illegal in every state except Massachusetts. JD asked them about their opinion on the matter and you are not going to want to miss what they had to say!

Like always, we have to break down my amazing, killer drag look and it’s all about revenge baby! Along with drag, we take a look back at my date night this past week with my partner. GAGA BABY! Yes, it’s true we went to Lady Gaga at Dodgers Stadium and come on, of course it was AMAZING! We get into this and a whole lot more!

Thank you so much for joining us on this journey. We are so happy to have you. WE LOVE YOU!

  • Career Hacks, Quitting Your 9-5 & Living the Dream like Ava DuVernay
    Sep 8 2022

Dreams, we all have them. We’ve all had at least one thing that keeps us going, working, trying to achieve what we desire so badly. It connects us all. We’ve all been told, “follow your dreams” or “don’t give up on your dreams”, but how often do we discuss how to actually achieve them?

In this episode I talk with Mariah and special guest, Katy DeBra, about how to make our dreams come true and our experiences trying. Katy DeBra has been an artist her whole life and she knew at a young age that she had a passion for the arts. This is what a lot of people believe drives us, gives our life purpose and hope. I believe we can all relate to having big dreams from a young age, but what’s rare is holding onto those exact dreams into adulthood. Dreams change and that is totally okay and sometimes we might have lots of dreams, and that’s okay too. What matters is holding onto passion, love, joy, closeness and caring for yourself and others. How can we take our dreams and use them for good? Not just to fulfill our own life, but use it to help other people?

Along with discussing our dreams, we get into my cousin JD’s past celebrity interview archives. Each week we will surprise you with a celebrity moment. (Don’t be afraid to request any celebs because he’s interviewed about 4,000 or so!) In this episode we look back at an interview JD had with Ava DuVernay at the Los Angeles Film Festival in 2016. Ava DuVernay is a filmmaker, producer and publicist known for films such as Selma, 13th, A Wrinkle in Time and more. She became the first African-American woman to be nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Director for her work on Selma. How perfect is she for this episode?! If anyone knows about chasing and achieving dreams it's Ava DuVernay.

A little later in the show we breakdown my drag look and the inspo from some Sports Illustrated models, including my painted on bikini! (Thanks Katy!) We also talk about my upcoming plans and putting a hold on my North American tour of gay campsites, to follow one of my biggest dreams yet! I have been working on this project for the past five years with my best friend and we have some very exciting news! Hear about this and a whole lot more on this special episode!

Gals, Gays & They’s is a big part of our dream. Not just growing this show and seeing it succeed, but creating a community of people who share values and desires to make the world a little better. We hope you join us on this journey. You belong here and we are so so so happy to have you.

  • How to Trust Yourself, Advice From Expert Life Coach
    Sep 1 2022

In this episode, I speak to Mariah and our guest Kelly Abanda about their understanding of trust, dig into the reasons behind having trust issues, resolving trust issues, and what it means to be your own “star” in life. Now, why is this an essential conversation to have? Because we’re all social beings and need a community and people to trust in both our personal and professional spheres. Kelly reveals that, as a business owner running things by herself, the advice pouring in from a community that understood her job gave her a lot of encouragement and support to continue her journey. I also share my experience building self-trust and how it helped me nail celebrity interviews during my time as an interviewer, including one with Hollywood sensation Tom Cruise!

So, having trust issues doesn’t mean you must avoid all the people in the world. It just means finding the right people for yourself. You don’t have to have a hundred friends to call yourself free from trust issues; you just need a few people to open up to and those who can open up to you too.

In the last block of our conversation, I discuss the evolution of performance art and famous drag queens. Drag is my passion. I’ll break down my drag queen look for today, the inspiration behind it, and the opportunity to see one of my favorite drag queens perform just over this past weekend!

    Important lessons from the episode:

    ● Self-trust is about trusting yourself enough to know you’re worthy, accepted, capable and can make the right decisions.

    ● Trusting yourself comes with practice. Have you noticed how your confidence increases manifold times when you’re thoroughly prepared for something?

    ● Everyone is a star – not just movie actors but people in any profession. Your definition of a star could vary based on your understanding of it.

    ● What are the most important things to do to find someone to trust?

    1. Make sure you’re healed from old wounds or are on the path of healing. We often unknowingly carry a lot of baggage into the next phase of our lives and unintentionally end up distrusting many people for hardly any fault of theirs.

    2. Listen to your intuition if it says something is off about someone. Trust your gut.

    3. Check if the other person has had strong long-term relationships (either friendship or romance); if they haven’t, you might want to assess why it is so.
