  • Red FM Celebrates Guts and Glory – Salute 71, we feature Major General Kuppanda Ponappa Nanjappa, AVSM, VrC, who commanded a company of the Kumaon Regiment and was assigned the task of capturing a well-fortified enemy camp along the East Pakistan border, which was a very vital operation. The officer led the troops with bravery, disregarding his own safety in the face of enemy fire, and was victorious, for which he was awarded the Vir Chakra. He recalls the surrender of 93,000 Pakistani soldiers on December 17, 1971, which contributed to the birth of a new nation.
