Welcome back to Fort Worth Weather Daily! We've got quite the weather party brewing out there, and I am absolutely pumped to break it down for you today.
So here's the deal with what's happening across North Texas right now. We're looking at a pretty active weather system moving in, and folks, this is going to be a wet weekend. We're talking showers and thunderstorms developing today and intensifying through Friday night. There's a sixty percent chance of precipitation today, and some of these storms could pack a punch with gusty winds up to thirty miles per hour. I guess you could say things are about to get a little too intense, or should I say too thunderstorm-y? Sorry, I couldn't resist!
Saturday is going to be our wettest day by far. We're expecting showers and thunderstorms throughout the day with an eighty percent chance of rain. Temperatures will actually drop as the system moves through, falling to around sixty degrees by early morning. Expect rainfall between a quarter and half an inch of new accumulation. That's substantial moisture, people!
Looking ahead, here's your three-day snapshot. Friday brings that sixty percent chance of showers and thunderstorms with highs near seventy-nine degrees and south winds at fifteen to twenty miles per hour. Saturday is definitely the soggiest day with eighty percent rain chances and that temperature drop I mentioned. Then Sunday clears out a bit with just a thirty percent chance of showers and partly sunny skies returning, with highs climbing back to around seventy degrees.
Now let's talk about something cool in our Weather Playbook segment today. We're diving into convection! When you've got warm air near the surface and cooler air aloft, that warm air wants to rise, creating these powerful updrafts. That's literally the engine that powers thunderstorms. The greater the temperature difference, the more unstable the atmosphere becomes, and boom, you get intense convective activity. That's exactly what we're setting up for this weekend in Texas!
One more heads up for my friends down in the Fort Worth area, especially if you're planning outdoor activities. Keep an eye on that radar Saturday because conditions will be pretty wet. The Trinity River might run higher than normal too, so be weather-aware out there.
