Paul Lear, manager of Fort Ontario State Historic Site in Oswego, NY from 1999-2024, discusses the rich history that the fort and adjoining Lake Ontario played in the story of the United States. From the French and Indian wars through to the modern day, the site played a vital role in the formation of the country.
Today, Mr. Lear runs the Safe Haven Holocaust Refugee Shelter Museum, located within the fort. Fort Ontario was the site of the only camp for Jewish Holocaust refugees in the United States during WWII . Please visit the "Collections" link below, who you can view "Over the Rainbow Bridge" which explains the plight and story of these refugees.
