In the last episode of the year we discuss J.P. Dutta's 1985 release, Ghulami. This was Dutta's directorial debut and remains one of his best works. The film tackles timeless issues of feudal lordship and caste system using Rajasthan as a backdrop. The film has an all star ensemble cast comprising of Dharmendra, Smita Patil, Naseeruddin Shah, Mithun Chakraborty, Reena Roy and Kulbhushan Kharbanda. Both Saahil and Saqib believe this to be Dharmendra's last truly great film. The conversation surrounding the film is easy and free flowing as the story telling passes the test of time and remains somewhat contemporary even after almost 40 years.

  • Chupke Chupke (1975)
    Dec 9 2025

This episode is dedicated to one of our all time favorite performers - Dharmendra. We have chosen Chupke Chupke as the film of choice to pay our tribute to the late actor who recently passed away. Chupke Chupke is one of many excellent films directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee which can be described as part of his slice of life films. The film is considered an all time classic and will appear in most lists for best Hindi comedies. The film also stars Sharmila Tagore, Om Prakash. Jaya Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan and Asrani. Dharmendra is in top form here with Om Prakash as their comic timing is on full display.

Saahil rates the film in his top five comedies of all time. Please tune in and let us know if the film has aged well with all its social commentary which still holds water after five decades.

In the latest episode of the podcast we talk about Basu Chatterjee’s 1986 legal drama Ek Ruka Hua Faisla. The film is a remake of Sydney Lumet’s 1957 classic 12 Angry Men. The remake is a compelling courtroom drama which captures the essence of the original American classic with all its nuances. The film is an extremely thought provoking commentary on human behaviors like herd mentality and cognitive biases. The cast includes the likes of K.K Raina, Pankaj Kapoor, Annu Kapoor and S.M Zaheer.

  • Meri Jung (1985)
    Nov 19 2025

Subhash Ghai's 1985 court room drama Meri Jung is our film of choice for this episode. The film stars Anil Kapoor, Meenakshi Sheshadhri, Nutan, Amrish Puri and Javed Jaffrey in pivotal roles. It was Ghai's maiden collaboration with leading man Kapoor - they would go on to make five other films in the next two decades. Puri's G.D Thakral is easily one of the best performances from a hind film villain in the 80's. His performance still towers through a film which at best is mediocre if reviewed now in hindsight of four decades. The film is also one of Javed Akhtar's popular solo works from the decade of 80's.

We talk about the characters and their performances - some memorable some not too much. Please let us know what you think of our review of Arun Varma vs Thakral!

In this episode of the podcast we talk about Ramesh Sippy's iconic film Sholay. It was a throughly enjoyable experience conversing about this film as it is an extremely special film for us and it keeps aging brilliantly even fifty years after it's release.

It is also a film which has given Hindi film fans some of the most unforgettable characters and dialogues. Amjad Khan's avatar of Gabbar Singh is easily one of the most memorable and impactful characters written in Hindi cinema. On that note there is no purpose to create more show notes as it's Sholay we are trying to explain! Please download and dive right in! After that we will take stock - Kitne aadmi the!

  • Masoom (1983)
    Aug 5 2025

In the latest episode we talk about Shekhar Kapoor's 1983 classic Masoom. This was his debut film and he has delivered a timeless masterpiece. The central figures in the film are Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azmi and a young Jugal Hansraj.

Masoom evokes the same emotion and introspection on every rewatch. Both Saahil and Saqib feel it is only natural to discuss this film with some deserved tight scrutiny in the most respectful way, because the stakes are always high when we talk about Masoom and its performances.

  • Agneepath 1990 - Return of the angry(not so young) man!
    Jul 23 2025

We have started creating episodes again! Our first episode after this hiatus focusses on one of our favorite larger than life filmi characters - Vijay Deenanath Chauhan! Mukul Anand's 1990 crime revenge saga - Agneepath, marked the return of Amitabh Bachchan as Vijay and this character takes us down the memory lane of similar characters from his glorious past. Saahil is convinced that this character of VDC has risen from the ashes of Vijay Verma of Deewar - or is loosely inspired by it. We are excited to share this recording with you. Please tune in and relive the last leg of this "Angry young man" installment of the great performer that is Bachchan.
