  • You, Me and 5 Bucks 017: A fashion chat w/ Hunter Shires
    Jun 9 2024

I live for an opportunity to talk about fashion and connect with new people. I've followed Hunter @highendhomo on Twitter and been obsessed with his takes on pop culture and fashion so I knew that it would be great to see things from his perspective. Getting another view from someone who is a bit more plugged in than I am makes for such a great back and forth convo.

We get into the "cancel culture" aftermath of certain designers, how consumption has changed, the industry when it comes to personal style, celebrities, and our own entry by way of either music or muses. There is talk of current magazines, the revolving door of creative directors, and of course we had to touch on the recent hot topics and whiplash of all the names we've heard thrown around for the next head of Chanel.

off-topic rants: current movie and tv faves and the new guard in music

Man, I love a Hitchcock film. There are few directors that give me chills in the best way and he is one of them. As a master of suspense, tension building, and incredible casting there is nothing better in a classic murder mystery story. These are just some of the brilliant aspects of his filmmaking that we still study today.

My first watch was when I was super young thanks to my mom. This is one of those stories that has become a comfort film to me now in my adulthood. Adapted from a play, Dial M for Murder mainly takes place inside the apartment of Tony and Margot Wendice and as the story unfolds it's exciting from moment to moment.

Me and Charles love the classics, including Ray Milland (woof) and the etherial and later royal Grace Kelly. We talk the behind the scenes. drama and other casting options, how the fashion came together, and questioned how this whole thing could have been solved by having a keychain on your latch key.

Off-topic rants include: Oscars rage segment, the Back to the Future series, scandalous old Hollywood movie themes, and we have a grasshopper interruption about 33 mins in

Since Charles has been waiting 30 years to see this film I had fairly reasonable expectations. Thankfully this film you can find on YouTube, but that's about the only place you'll see it. You would think in 1993 a film starring Jason Priestley of 90210 fame involving a road trip to Hollywood would be a smash. Welp, that didn't happen.

Most of the time we had no idea what was going on, but we examined this one with today's lens and yikes. We get into why Jerry O'Connell plays the same role over and over, the 60s clothes, and the weirdness of Hollywood 'stalking' Marilyn Monroe in media.

Off-topic rants include: Big Brother and The Challenge, Alessandro Nivola, Glen Powell's time to shine, and movies we wanted to walk out of.
