In this episode of Of Cedar And Salmon we look behind the curtain (or into the cave?) of the legend of Raven and Seagull.

After releasing daylight into the world and outsmarting a sea monster, Raven is called upon once again when his equally-mischievous cousin, Seagull, decides the daylight belongs to him alone.

Guided by Long Claw, we explore the deeper questions within the legend:

Why does Seagull hoard the light?

What does it mean that balance must be restored again and again?

And what can this legend teach us about power, prestige, and the human desire to possess what was never meant to be owned?

Plus, and perhaps most-importantly, how it relates to Long Claw's favorite GEICO commercial.

(Hint: "Expired!")

While these two ancient cousins squabble, we examine themes of greed and generosity, responsibility, reputation, and balance.

And beyond the mischief, we explore the question: when something meant for everyone is held by one, who will dare to set it free?
