The episode unpacks the vital role music plays in the psychedelic experience. Known colloquially as the “second therapist in the room;” the music played and listened to under the influence of psychedelics can affect the experience as greatly as the dosage taken. Unfortunately, much of the music created for psychedelic therapy reflects the tastes of the older white men who have largely controlled the research. As such, listeners are forced to listen to classical music and other sounds that have little to do with their experience. Thankfully, an emerging group of recording artists and producers are creating playlists and even whole albums specifically curated towards the psychedelic experience. We meet Coldplay producer Jon Hopkins whose latest album “Music for Psychedelic Therapy” was timed to the duration of a Ketamine trip and combines Brian Eno style ambient sounds with field recordings from the ancient Tayos Cave System of the Ecuadorian Andes.

· Notable Figures: Jon Hopkins, Sam Ghandi
