The town of New Sweden, Maine is small. In 2003 it boasted a population of around 600 people, most of whom were immigrants, or descendants of immigrants from Sweden, hence the name. This small town sits near the tip top of Maine making it one of the northernmost towns in the continental US. It's rather unassuming and mostly unremarkable, that is until the morning of April 27th 2003. Join us on this episode of Are They There Yet where we cover the tale of the New Sweden Arsenic Poisoning, one of the largest mass poisonings ever recorded.
