  • Resumen

  • On May 11th 1834, the body of Nathaniel Frost was found near the Church Street Cemetery in Mobile Alabama. He had been stabbed several times with his own knife that he used to whittle. He had been robbed, and it was said that fifty dollars and a silver watch was taken from his body. The last person to be seen with him alive? A man named Charles R. S. Boyington. He was a young printer who had moved to Mobile in search of a better life.Unfortunately times got tough for him, and he got mixed up into gambling and drinking. According to the prosecution, he killed Nathaniel to take his money, and then left Mobile on the very same day. But is that really what happened? Jumping forward in time, on February 20, 1835 Charles was hanged. Right before he died he said, “If I am innocent, an oak tree will grow from my heart.” Eventually on Charles’s grave an oak tree did grow, and it is still there today.
