Self-experimentation is a hotly debated topic in the scientific community. On one hand, it's kind of noble for a researcher to play the role of a human guinea pig, risking lives and limbs, ...just, bravely taking the risk upon themselves instead of dragging others into their crazy schemes face first.
Sometimes it feels like their actions are less about science and more about a quest for some satisfying gratification. Who knows anymore?
Anyway, expect data and bad decisions, now......Buckle up: this is peer-review by trial, error, and poor judgment.
