Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped, -Job 1:20
And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD. -Job 1:21
In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly. -Job 1:22
DEVOTION
Based on Job 1
In the worst moment of his life, Job teaches us that worship and grief can coexist. After losing everything—children, wealth, health—he doesn't pretend to be fine. He tears his robe, shaves his head, falls to the ground in anguish. But then comes the stunning response: he worships.
This isn't denial or fake faith but raw, honest devotion that says, "God, You're still God even in my devastation." Job shows us we don't have to choose between being real about our pain and being faithful to our God. Sometimes the most powerful worship comes through tears. When we worship in the valley, we declare that our faith isn't based on our circumstances but on God's character.
A.C.T.S. REFLECTION
ADORATION: Sovereign Lord, You are worthy of worship in every season. You give and take away, yet Your name remains blessed. You are God in the storm and in the sunshine.
CONFESSION: I confess I often worship only when life is good. When trials come, I question Your goodness instead of trusting Your sovereignty—my faith wavers with my circumstances.
THANKSGIVING: Thank You for being unchanging when everything else shifts. Thank You for receiving our broken worship, our tears mixed with praise. Thank You for being bigger than our pain.
SUPPLICATION: Lord, teach me to worship You in loss and in gain. Help me trust Your heart when I can't trace Your hand. Give me Job's faith to bless Your name even when my heart is breaking.
PRAYER
“Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath”
JAMES 1:19
Dear Heavenly Father, You are the keeper of wisdom, and no word You speak is ever wasted. You are intentional with Your words, attentive to our prayers, and patient with Your actions. I pray You would make me more like You. Reign in my tongue and keep me from saying things I will regret. Please give me an attentive ear to truly listen to those around me. And hold me back from acting out of anger. I trust that through the guidance of Your word, power of Your spirit, and comfort of Your love, I can truly heal my relationships. In Jesus’ name, Amen. 🙏🏾
