Join us in our continuation of celebrating women who were LGBTQ+ ADVOCATES for PRIDE MONTH. Marielle Franco was a strong advocate for poor black people who called the favela where she was raised, the only black woman to serve on Rio's City Council, and a fierce critic of governmental corruption.
Marielle was murdered for her confrontational stance, but those that orchestrated her death could not have imagined how their violent act to stop her voice would literally amplify her message and draw eyes from all over the world.
