Rui Xu started rowing in 2017 and although being relatively 'new' to rowing has rapidly become one of the fastest scullers in the UK. In 2021 Rui placed 5th at Scullers Head which led to him being invited to race in the elite race that is the Wingfield Sculls (see link to Rui's race below). In 2022 Rui won Scullers Head beating many other elite scullers in order to do so - his season continues with the hope of qualifying to compete for the Canadian National team and also in search of a red box at Henley Royal Regatta!
In this wide ranging interview we talk through how Rui got into sculling, his ambitions and a bit about his training philosophy. Rui - although a "shiteweight" is incredibly fast on the ergo (6:06 2k) so we discuss what he did to get so fast and try to draw upon his tips for recovery!.
