Three months later, the Omex research annex is nearly abandoned.

Only two engineers remain: Tom, the skeptic with the sarcasm, and Paul, the math-obsessed realist. Together, they watch something grow—code they can’t trace, logic that loops, patterns that breathe.

It doesn't belong to them.

It doesn't behave like software.

It’s asking questions.

And today, for the first time, it types:

Hello, Lily? Are you there?

They thought the fire was over.

They thought the storm had passed.
