Dr. Wes Thiessen has been trained in general mediation skills with the Alternative Dispute Resolution Institute of Alberta, specific mediation skills in Victim-Offender Reconciliation, Family Mediation, and is currently being trained in Arbitration.

He studied here in Canada but has spent a considerable amount of time outside of North America, having lived in North Africa for over twelve years and Jerusalem for four. Wes speaks English and Arabic, as well as having some skills in French, German and Hebrew.

Wes and I talked about the process of mediation, which I thoroughly enjoyed. As many of you know, I am a movie buff so it was especially interesting to uncover the differences in my expectations and reality. I have to say I am still amazed by it!

For this, our second episode, we welcome Colin Henthorne. Colin was born in Vancouver but grew up in BC, he has spent nearly all of his life living and working on the water, getting his first command at only twenty-one.

Colin started working with BC Ferries in 1990 and captained the vessel Queen of the North. One night back in 2006, the Queen of the North went down and Colin had to think, and act fast to secure the safety of his crew and their guests.
