On this day in 1927, Babasaheb Dr. Ambedkar and his colleagues publicly burnt Manusmriti in Mahad. This is a historic moment in the struggle for social justice and self-respect which marks emancipation conceived by Babasaheb for Dalits, Backward Classes, and Women whom this text degrades and subjugates them as beings without rights. In this episode, let us relook the Mahad satyagraha and what led to the burning of manusmriti. I tried to draw parallel with respect to accessibility of water for Dalits in India and blacks in America.
