Ramses Coly reviews Karen Samantha Barton's book, "Africa's Joola Shipwreck." Barton is a geography professor at the University of Northern Colorado. The book deals with Senegal's MV Joola sinking in The Gambia in 2002 and the subpar rescue efforts in the aftermath. The tragedy killed about 1862 people on board with only 64 survivors, making it the second deadliest peacetime maritime disaster in history. Despite the high death toll -- higher than the RMS Titanic -- few know about this incident that has deeply impacted Senegalese people.
