Episode note: This episode touches on suicide and mental health-if you are struggling, please know you are not alone and you can call or text 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline 24/7 to connect with someone who can help.
In this powerful episode, Jessica speaks with Tina Meier-the Founder and Executive director of the Megan Meier Foundation. She is an internationally recognized speaker on bullying, cyberbullying, internet safety, digital footprints, conflict resolution, sexting, and suicide awareness and prevention. An organization born from a chilling tragedy-the loss of Tina's daughter, Megan to suicide in 2006 at only 13 years old. Megan was the victim of cyberbullying after an adult neighbor posed as young boy named "Jost Evans' on MySpace.
Tina shares not only her own story living through such unspeakable horror, but vulnerably shares her own struggles with her own worth and value throughout her life as well as the strong mission of the foundation.
Jessica and Tina discuss the negative impact of media, social media, gaming & bullying on young people and how parents and influential adults can help to intervene and hopefully course correct the affects through compassion and open dialogue.
This is an incredibly valuable conversation for not only parents and teachers but anyone struggling with their sense of value and worth at the hands of outside influences.
Tina shares growth and positive change she sees occurring in our communities as well as her continued hope and awareness efforts for the foundation.
